Was on the water at around 10am and decided to drift with soft plastics for flathead to see if they're starting to wake up from their winter slumber.

got a couple of follows from flatties and flounder and caught one Ok sized (28cm) flounder on a berkely 3" minnow. unfortunately the little fella had gobbled the jighead so, despite my intentions of chucking him back, he's now my daughters dinner tonight.

A couple of chopper tailor were caught on the sp's and I dropped one down into a deep hole hoping for a jewie. there were a couple of interesting readings on the sounder - looked like good sized jew holding along the edges of the drop. however no action.

trolled a halco laser pro 45 and a halco scorpion 35 back and picked up a nice 50cm flattie and dropped another one right at the yak....off the water by 12.

good to have a quick paddle and catch a couple of fish..

Nice one Dave - looks like you've picked up dinner :)

Regarding those large Jew shaped objects on your sounder - what size SP you send down in front of them? Picked up some large Sguidgie Minnow type SPs the other day - in the 6" range, might be the trick?

Travis... mate a 6" soft plastic would be great on jews. I was in serious strife today if I'd hooked one as I was only using my light rods...but it would have been fun while it lasted. :?

Martin.. no worries re the paddle..hope you find something that meets your needs soon, and look forward to catching up for a fish. Flatties were in around 1.5 metres of water only 300-400 upstream of where I launched. The flounders were pretty much straight out from the beach.

Red, yes mate, the esky is a beaut... If I ever get stranded on a desert isle in my kayak at least i'll have cold bait!

Nice lizard Dave.

A tip with touchy jew given to me by our jew champion at Pt Mac years ago.

Fillet a big chopper...fold length wise so that the flesh is outwards and skin in..weave your hook length ways down the bait so the line is sewing shut the folded fillet as you go and locate the hook finally near the thick end of the bait...he used 9/0 hooks.

He got many jew on this rig when other baits including livies were not succeeding, and claimed the softer feeling bait was getting the result.

Have often wondered if this would be worth a try on kingies as it must put an enormous scent trail out behind trolling
