Here goes with my first trip report
I christened my Hobie Outback on Sunday morning finally. Put her in the water around 07.30 and managed to launch without too many problems, although it took me a minute or so to figure out that my rudder wasn't down  Also took a little time to get used to how to change direction, but after a minute or two I was happily pedalling out into the wide blue yonder. Being new to all this I didn't go too far offshore - mainly stayed on the sandy patches between the inshore reefs.
I even managed to catch a couple of good sized whiting and a few smaller specimens that were released to grow bigger :)
The really good news is that I didn't fall out of my YAK, or tip it, so I was stoked about that. All in all a good first dip for Barry Cuda and the deeper waters holding bigger fish are beckoning now
I still need to get things organised better on board and will work on that as time goes by. Here's a few pics of Barry Cuda's maiden voyage folks :)

Hi Paffoh. In response to your question regarding the bait used to catch the whiting, I used bloodworms. I have saved the two smaller whiting shown in the pics for bait for a couple of big Westralian Dhufish next time I venture out further to the reefs offshore.

Cheers

Unfortunately, due to the change in ownership of this web site and the lack of response by the owners to my requests to remove my email address from all administrative-level notifications and functionality, I have decided to remove my posts on AKFF. Thank you for the great times, the fantastic learning experiences and the many many fish. If you are desperate for the old content of this particular post, it is available below base64 encoded and bzip2 compressed.

Good stuff Cuda. Great to see another WA yakfisher getting into it.

You're obviously getting better weather in your part of the state than we're getting on the south coast. We've had strong winds (mostly eaterlies) for about a week now it seems. And every weekend for the last month or so. GRRR

I'll have to take my kayak to Gero for some fishing when you've got the good spots sussed  .

Thanks for your comments Dodge, It's nice to get encouragement from a 'legendary" member such as yourself :)
I certainly had trouble finding a spot for the yellow Hobie cooler / storage bag, as I wasn't comfortable trying to turn around to reach behind the seat. I had an esky in the spot behind the seat which was not sitting right because the backrest for the seat was pushing it back when I was leaning back. I want to keep the big forward hatch free for fish when I start catching bigger specimens, so it's a matter of getting used to the yak in any conditions and gaining enough balance to move around confidently. As you say it gets easier / better with practice

Cheers

Cuda
