well , its a trip report , but sadly not a fish , not a bite , the sx 40 could not drag one up for me , but from all reports from others , i was not alone, however , i have learned, TAKE ONE ROD ONLY when your fishing skinney mangrove creeks.I took the sea kayak , because the tide was running in pretty fast and i had a fair way to paddle, one rod behind me in the holder with lure out of the water and sitting on the rod tip , and 1 rod in the front holder, drifted too close to the mangrove bank , and rear rod with lure attached reached out and grabbed a mangrove tree , the tide kept moving me forward at great speed with the drag now starting to screem on the back rod , then a snag on the front rod and away goes that drag , shiiiiiii and oei vey, after a difficult paddle back and a handfull of trebels , managed to free the lot , but next time , ONE ROD.

Barry, I've had a few of those stressful moments in the mangroves. The language isn't pretty. I reckon that while the rods can be a problem, especially if you stop paddling and are getting blown into the mangroves, the real culprits are trebles. I usually use a hook keeper or the lowest guide or even the reel seat to keep the lures out of the way.

There will be lots of vegetation along the river on Sunday so I'll be limiting myself to two rods.

Karl, do you use 2 piece rods, and dos`nt the rod get a little hard to find, or perhaps slide down the back, i dont think i will fish off the sit in again, unless its open water trolling for kings or salmon tailor etc :? :?

Unfortunately, due to the change in ownership of this web site and the lack of response by the owners to my requests to remove my email address from all administrative-level notifications and functionality, I have decided to remove my posts on AKFF. Thank you for the great times, the fantastic learning experiences and the many many fish. If you are desperate for the old content of this particular post, it is available below base64 encoded and bzip2 compressed.

Sounds like the start of a Dodge freshwater post Bazza.

People of our age should only do one thing at a time mate so one rod is enough for me also, and a handful of trebles doesn't sound so hot either, hope the fish oblige next time

In my experience, things stored below deck don't move too much when paddling flat water. yep, I use two piece rods, both 6'6" and easily fit in the front hatch. ;) The larger of my reels is a bit of a trick to get through the hatch, but it's possible with a bit of jiggling.

Jeffo[/quote] jeffo , fishing the middle to last of the run in, and it was fairly hiking, that little creek i was in is MILL CREEK, its a great little creek with no housing or industrial development at all , and the mouth is super shallow , so is navigable really only by kayak, normally pull a few flatties out of it , have seen bream caught , but no luck on bream for me yet.
