i want to fit a front rod holder to the espri , i noticed some of you have fitted what looks like flush mounts well forward to avoid the paddle , are these rod holders the demountable "scotty or berkley" type holders or the standard tube type holders like those fitted in the back, and if they are the cheaper tube type , is there enough depth in the hull for them to go in all the way, thanks guys, gotta get this little darlin fitted out and out there :? :? :? :?

G'day Barry,
I've fitted standard flushmounts at the front of mine mainly because of how the sounder/Gps is positioned. With the scotty or berkley holders mounted there it looked too cluttered for my liking. The two forward mounts are verticle mainly for holding stuff while I drift ,these have been cut and welded but the others are angled and these fit without any mods.

thanks Shaun, that espri of yours is a beautifully set up boat, i would like to set mine up in a very similar manner as i like to keep things simple and dont like clutter ,so those two front mounts are the verticle type and had to be cut down to fit in the hull, do you use them to troll?also the rod holder behind them , is it also verticle, and what do you use it for ?sorry about all the questions Shaun, but i want to get it right 1st go :) :)

Barry,
The two forward mounts are only about 6 inches deep and are only used for holding a net/gaff/lip grippers or a knife.for me it's a quick and simple place to stow things when bringing a fish onboard. The other flush mount closest to the seat is an angled one facing forward and is used mainly for holding the rod when I get lazy. I usually drift fish with a chute out the back so facing forward I can set a rod in the holder with a S/P floating about and have one to actively fish with. For trolling I use the two behind the seat.
The other option I almost did was to place the flush mounts on the deck above the front hatch (one each side) facing out at 45' from the yak for trolling so I can see the rod tips when working weedbeds. This is still something I may do.
The scotty/berkley mounts can be removed and used for other toys like downriggers ect however my dog would finish up finding one and have a new chew toy..... This was another reason I went for flush mounts.
