Launched around 9am this morning at fishys. There were one or two stinkboats out, but it was hard to see through the haze. The water was flat and there was no wind to even speak of.

I cruised around a bit and got a tiny pinkie just north of the reef. Then I spotted a school of baitfish and followed them south.

All the time I was getting flatties around 25cm with one at 30cm.

Ran into a gentlemen on his Outback, who's name is Eddie. Fished with him for a while, then he headed off home.

I kept working around the baitfish school, but there were only flathead, so I headed south in search of new ground.. Managed to find some very fishy looking water and structure and in no time got 3 flatties over 30cm. Switched to a berkely worm in the pumpkin seed colour and got a pinkie at just over 25cm.

A lot of the plastics got bitten off because i had small heads on them and I think I manged to find some squid stirring up the baitfish.

Next time i'll head out with a couple of squid jigs...

Cheers

Ivan

Nice work mate :)

With the abundance of flathead & your first snapper its surely a positive experience, admiring your surroundings seems to pay off! ( May you have many more pinkies on your plate via your yak! )

Enjoying the new yak?

Well done..

Nice to crack the seal Ivan.

Pinkies have been real slow in close lately. I havent raised a real fish in 6 weeks (very ashamed). Should be back soon though.

I've since taken an interest in squid now too. Bought some real expensive Japanese jigs from Billfisher and they work a treat. Got 5 on Friday and 4 last night in no time.

Have to catch up soon.

Cheers

I forgot to mention that I got one of the flatties while swoffing. Got him on a blue clouser 1/0.

Also, at one point i managed to scooch up to the front hatch to grab something from the front.. that's how stable the Revo is. the mirage drive kinda gets in the way though.

Scott, when do u reckon the snapper will head in close again? Do we need some rain first?

Cheers

Peril, I use an 8wt full sinking line and do short casts "up stream" and let it sink as far as possible. I couldn't give u an exact measure but i was fishing in only a few metres at the time.

In clear water the flatties will rise up a reasonable distance to strike. So once i found a flattie spot on he plastics, i swapped over.

Next target is a pinkie or three on fly

Cheers

Great stuff Ivan, may your first pinky be the first of many! :D :D

I've also noticed flatties at Mornington hitting lures well off the bottom - last time I was catching flatties on a HB which dives to 3m, in 8m of water
