Have got a couple of days off after Xmas :) and im very keen on fishing some freshwater systems.
Im looking for a River or Lake that preferably has camping facilities ( but not nessecary ), so wondering what are some favorite places other Victorian Yak Fishos like to spend time on???

and if anyone would maybe like to hook-up for a Freshwater X-mas fishing trip somewhere around the 28th Dec, l'll post a "Trip" and see what we can organise.

There's freshwater left in Victoria? Only kidding... but in all seriousness, my favorite fresh fishing spots do seem to be on the way out, if not gone. I grew up in central vic, and used to have good success at Lake Cairn Curran and Epaloch. Wouldn't think of fishing there now though. Lake Eildon has let me down on previous visits as well.

The Goulbern river can be good, but am not sure how it's fairing right now (might jump on the motorbike and find out this weekend).

Sadly, my favorite fishing lake is practically impossible to access with a yak, as it's way up in the mountains: Lake Tali Karng. I hike into this place a couple of times each year and the fishing is excellent. I have seriously considered lugging an inflatable there and burying it nearby. But thats easier said than done. It's a long walk in (22km the way we normally go).

There is the Murray of course, but it's so far away from us here.

I'm interested in other responses to this to, as I'm starting to think fresh again as well... so, bump :)

The Glenelg River is a great paddle down and camp along the way trip...but I think gets booked out over christmas (try Parks Vic). Trout(?), bream and perch at the top end, mulloway further down. I was going to throw in Eildon (there's some beaut stretches of water) as even at 12% that's a fair bit of water to explore in a yak. Lower water levels also mean some of the old relics start to pop up out of the water and a theory that all the fish get more concentrated and easier to catch gets tossed about. But the downsides are the fires will probably stilll be smoking about and jet skiers/water skiers will be out and about if not. Dartmouth I haven't been to but is meant to be a cracker...fires again though. Leftiant maybe able to add some light on Hume and Mulwala..and the Murray I've never ventured there for cod either. Southwest again the Glen Aire valley is a nice little river estuary for camping, ask Kevin about that one (a little past Apollo Bay). And the Gellibrand River at Princetown holds trout/perch upstream and nightime mulloway work is a possibility if the mouth has been open. Salmon off the beach...nearby apostles to gawk at...either the Gellibrand or Aire might be worth considering. They'd also get ya a paddle at Bullen Merri or Purrumbete on the return flight by doing an inland journey, avoiding the Ocean Road busses and cars with surfboards bolted to their roofs. Some salmonoids, redfin and even Aussie Bass maybe possible from the crater lakes :D .

great work fellas, theres a few good sounding lakes/rivers in all that.
I'll give Purrembete a go and suss out lake colac, and then probably give Gellibrand river a try time permitting.
