gatesy do you know what water temperature they follow? I know they live in warmer water, following the currents and only show up when the temps are warm enough.

Would be good to know what temp they prefer so that we know when they are likely to be around in numbers.

Looking forward to catching my first one this summer - they'd have to be the best looking fish in the ocean (and one of the best eating also)

Unfortunately, due to the change in ownership of this web site and the lack of response by the owners to my requests to remove my email address from all administrative-level notifications and functionality, I have decided to remove my posts on AKFF. Thank you for the great times, the fantastic learning experiences and the many many fish. If you are desperate for the old content of this particular post, it is available below base64 encoded and bzip2 compressed.

I was under the impression they liked 20 to 21 degrees
Gatesy they'll be with the first of the warm water and it can't get to hot they love heat. Check out this link mate

When you get one don't stuff around with it either, just wipe it clean and dump on a hotplate as is, from the water, the gut will shrink to a tiny walnut size ball when cooked...its to good to waste one skerrick of the flesh

A ball to catch and eating to match

As Dodge said, the temp should be med to hot, lightly oiled with quality olive, served with a side salad and washed down with a wine or two.
