Well I was too eager to get my yak up and going that when i stuck the transducer inside the hull, I didn't sand the bottom of the yak, 3 trips in and it's now fallen off........I know a few of you have come accross this before, I am wondering what the best method of getting the silicone off the transducer is? I have taken a fair amount off, but I do not want to scratch the trasducers sensitive part (I assume you have to be careful with it?) any ideas how i can remove it? or should I just silicone it up again?

Gday Aleg75 - I'm going through the same problem at the moment. Its one of life's mysteries that the silicon won't stick to the yak but sticks like the proverbial to the transducer! I've found a sharp thumb nail and elbow grease to be the only method of removing most of the silicon from the transducer. If you find another solution be sure to post it!

I just sliced the silicone with a razor blade to remove off the trannie, and my handbook said to sand the trannie before applying the silicone [used 1000 wet and dry paper to roughen it up].

On the hull really sanded heavily with coarse paper and left the boat untouched for a week after reapplying silicone; and no problems second time round

i used sikaflex. sanded the buggery out of the transducer and yak like dodge, and cleaned it really well with metho. increased surface area = increased adhesion i guess.

i beat my swing like it owes me money, and i leave it out in adelaides heat for up to a week, and it still hasnt come off (touch wood!)

Thanks all for your responses.

Seems some of you can treat your transducer a bit rough and still works fine? if that's the case i could just sand the silicone off the transduver and start again?

ash i had exactly the same problem with silicone, and yes it peels cleanly off the hull but sticks like poo to a blanket on the transducer.

solution - use sikaflex.

i scraped the silicone off the transducer with a razor blade/knife (still remnants on there -couldn't get it perfectly clean). then I suck a big dollop of white sikaflex onto the transducer and bedded it down inside the yak. I needed to get the transducer out again a few weeks later (due to a faulty readout problem with the unit itself) and found that the sikaflex lifted cleanly off the hull with a bit of force, and presto, also peeled clenly off the transducer.

when I finally re-stuck it (3 or 4 months ago) it has been perfect since then..

Get as much off as you can then clean it with Prepsol / wax & grease remover.
That's how I got rid of it off mine. Then I just mounted it on the outside, and it works a lot better now.
