Espri for sale on ebay described as having a small dent in the bottom, have a look at the photo what are your thoughts would this effect performance?

I think because there is a scupper within the dent you would have to see the kayak to make a judgement and be sure the integrity of the hull hasn't been compromised in any way.

Start bid is to high I think with the problems involved

Pfft , mines like that when i leave it too long on it's guts.

Put it in the sun and close all the hatches tight and bung and it puffs out after a few hours .

Store it right and it's good as gold . You have no worries there.Mine has looked worse than that when ive forgotten it .

Heya Shayned,

Mate that is no "small" dent as described and if it can't be removed, it will definately affect performance - adversely.

Peter, Dodge and Karl all own one of these yaks and would be in a much better position to assess the likelyhood of removing the dent.

My wife has a perception contour however, and when the bottom gets "dented" on it, I remove it as described in peters post.

500 bucks us a little more than about half price for a new espri which is about right for a second hand one I think. Seems a little dear for a starting bid though. I wouldn't pay much more than that.

Just looked at the bottom of my espri and it's now flat as a tack.
It was worse than the one on ebay actually . I left it on the concrete in the garage for ages.
Sinse i had it on my new stand over the weekend it has come back to shape.

Unless it's been really mistreated ,like having holes in it you should not have a worry at all. Knowing what i know about the espri now i would have no worries in buying it if i wanted another one.
They are a really flat bottomed yak compared to others and have long areas that have no extra support like scupper drains , this does happen if you leave it flat on it's guts.

One way to check is to fill the hull with water enough to see if water leaks out when you buy it. It has to be raised off the ground though.

I think you'll find that the dent will pop out if you leave the yak in the sun upside down for a while. If it is more stubborn, when the plastic is warm, push out the dent from inside and cool it with running water to set it back in the correct shape.

Ditto to what has been said by Peter and others above. I have just shipped my Espri from Brisbane. It was squeezed into the top of the container - and by the time it got here it had a radical dent in it. I left it in the sun for a few days with the bungs etc closed tightly - and now it is as good as gold. Smooth as.

Get rid of the dents. Get a tubeless tyre valve. Drill the hatch cover and pull the valve through...Screw hatch back on, Go to the servo, and inflate to 600Kpa, and see if anything happens.

No, No, No, just kidding

Cheers all Andybear

Very funny NOT! I followed your instructions and after I inflated the yak to 200 kpa, which was as much puff as my lungs would allow, I read ya last line and find ya just joking. Next time, tell me it's a joke first - PLEASE. 8)

Red,
I think it's a good thing that yak's are hard to find in Oz or you might have been right, Troppo could have been put in a comprimising position.

I checked the last auction and someone had bid on it wonder what went wrong?

Yeah I bid on the espri and am going to win. So if you want it be prepared alot higher for it... bring on the bidding war. But in the same breath i would like to buy it for 475 :) and not have to pay to much. I will let you have the next espri that comes up on ebay :)

BTW i shotgunned it in the previous thread
http://www.akff.net/forum/viewtopic.php ... c&start=15

but all is fair in love and ebay so if you are going to buy it I will enjoy your rivalry

Cheers

Jesse
