I have been suffering withdrawals after a very busy week last week (whoohoo, made some money for a change 
) So with a quiet monday arvo and no reason to stay up late, I set the alarm for 5am and rolled out of bed keen for a fish.
I got the car rolling about 5.25 and cruised up the range, sitting on 80km/h most of the way, a nice easy drive, took me roughly 35mins from the driveway to the toll gate at Cressbrook.
An old bloke in a van waved me down and I stopped, he just wanted to chat about my yak and such things, not a bad way to start the day, he had just finished a dawn session on his canoe and was heading back to camp. I don't think he caught anything as he didn't mention his catch and I didn't ask the question.

We bid eachother a good day and I headed down to the ramp to find the sun bright and hot already. There was a lot of action in the water. I put the gear on the yak and paddled out towing a purple poltergiest. There's a lot of weed in this dam and I soon had a good amount of it wrapped around my lure, so switched to the purple pakrat which doesn't dive as far down. Again, not a touch and soon found more weed.
The bouys are very confusing and I had no idea what they meant, so just paddled through them past the pumping station beyond to the bouy line that clearly marks the limit of boating access.
Now keen to try the SPs that had been successful on my recent visit to somerset I tied on a 1/8oz jighead and slipped on a 4" gulp minnow in smelt, and let the kayak drift with the wind towards the tower. Half way there I got a few touches, same response I got at Somerset, tap tap, twitch twitch, bang, up came a nice little bass.

A few pics, quick measure, and he was off swimming with his mates. Straightened up the plastic and cast out again, seconds later, up came another bass around the same size.

I then found some very deep water and instantly got more touches, hit hard and got nothing, let it drop and touches again, another strike and nothing, so just let it bounce along the bottom with little twitches, then bang, I knew this was a better fish, it didn't really fight harder, but could feel the added weight. In the net and he went 40cms. unfortunately the 2/0 hook had imbedded well into the roof of his mouth and getting it out produced a lot of blood. I had doubts for his survival, so he went in the bag for dinner.
