Arrived at the ramp and unloaded about 9:30. Chucked a few sp's around the pylons while waiting for Gunston to arrive. Got a legal flattie in the first 5 mins. Asked old guy on bank if he wanted it and he said yes. So paddled over said hello and gave it to him. Thought I would chat and fish with the old guy while waiting for Gunston to show. Ended up getting another just legal flattie for him so him and his wife had a nice feed for tea. Both flatties were caught on 2" gulp shrimps. Decided I had waited long enough for Gunston to show so decided to head off.
Headed under the bridge into the little creek I was going to take to the coomera. Managed a small bream on the first pass. Not bad. Paddled around the other side of the pylon and got smashed by something that ducked through the pylons. While desperately trying to paddle with one hand and leaning right back to shove the rod tip between the pylons to salvage the fish I thought I hope this is a jack. It certainly hit hard enough! I had a break and the fish swam out into the open for about 2 secs but it was all over shortly after when the fish swam back into the pylons and managed to gain it's freedom. Bugger, now I'll never know what it was.
Re-rigged and paddled down the creek heading for the Coomera. Wasn't a very long paddle but looked very fishy. Caught a few more small flatties along the way. When I got to the Coomera I headed upstream to the railway bridge pylons. Paddled around there for a bit with no success so decided to give the creek another shot. Just near the mouth I got smashed by something that just kept taking line and towing me further up the small creek. I had tightened my drag after the earlier incident but only having 4lb line I was beginning to think that might have been a dumb thing to do. It headed for one of the pontoons then it headed for a rock wall then to a mangrove bank and then back to the rock wall where I finally got my first glimpse of a nice trevally. After a few circles around the yak I finally had it on board. It went 45cms and was my first ever Trevally on the yak so it's also my PB.
Took a few snaps and let it go to fight another day. Drifted back towards the ramp with the tide nailing another few flatties along the way. Headed home about 2 pm.
I just found out that Gunston went the the M1 ramp so we weren't too far apart but we never met up. Maybe next time.
All up I caught 1 bream 1 trevally and about 10 flatties. A successful days fishing in my book. Escpecially since I was testing out my new combo for breaming, pity I only caught one Bream!!!!
