Dear Southern gents, particularly if you live inland,

Can I get some advice on taking the yak out in the dead of winter? My experience living in Canberra is that there's plenty of fresh water around, but it's not likely to produce any fish. Trips to the coast beckon but are severely hampered by the presence of childen and a neglected wife.

Are there any other worthy day-trips that might produce a fish or two at this time of year?

I should have inserted a knowing wink after that statement. We cant even tempt dead bloated kangaroos at the waters edge with a lure at googong.

We catch trout through the ice here so you should be able to catch them there in winter.

I'd vote for Jindabine and go get some trout. It's a stocked lake so you know they are around.
