Well, we met up at the ramp arund 6am and headed off.

As the tide was out, many of the usually productive spots were probably too shallow and try as I might I got bugger all result.

First in was a very large swimmer crab - not into those and off he swam.

Later I picked up a large grinner on SP's.

I tried trolling some pillies and not far into a troll my drag shot off like never before for about 4 seconds and then went slack. Like something had simply smashed the bait and spat the 3 x 2/0 ganged rig.

Interestingly as all 4 of us were trying spots near eachother on SP's near to where I lost the pilly a large black whaler shark breahed and gobbled something. That was scary as it wasn't 10 metres from where I was.

I was disappointed as I was using a fairly light 1/8 jigg head on a 3 inch grub and mostly just caught the bottom. I have decided to try 1/12 on a 1/0 hook in future - as the other 2 were doing well on this rig.

Unfortunately, due to the change in ownership of this web site and the lack of response by the owners to my requests to remove my email address from all administrative-level notifications and functionality, I have decided to remove my posts on AKFF. Thank you for the great times, the fantastic learning experiences and the many many fish. I just don't see the attraction of crabs for several reason, there ain't much meat - even in a big one. And I just don't fancy those chomping big claws in the Swing cockpit.

I didn't catch the whaler - I wouldn't want to. Head was probably about 70-80cm wide, but I didn't pause to measure it proberly. If anyone else see's it you're welcome to try.

Good report Phoenix :D I love the 1/12 jigheads for shallow (<6m) work, better hang time than the 1/8. The only hard thing is keeping it near the bottom when the drift is fierce. I've definately had an increased catch rate since I've started using the lighter jigheads
