Currently have a cleat in the middle of the deck for tying off the anchor and drogue. Want to locate the tie off point on the gunwale (legs get in the way).

I bought 2X (4-8mm) clam cleats today. Before I start, does anyone have any thoughts on where to best place the cleat/s? I bought 2 because I thought you may need them opposing - depending on where anchor trolley is - bow or stern.

Having said that, I'm now wondering if I should get a couple of eyelets to mount infront of each cleat - then I don;t have to worry about where the anchor is and I can have a cleat on each side (port/ starboard)...

Any thoughts or experience would be appreciated.

I would think an eyelet would be a good idea to take some of the strain off the cleat.

A better idea IMHO is an anchor trolley,
The anchor trolley is a great idea, but feel to put a rope through an eye is exposing you to risk if you had to dump the anchorline quickly in an emergency situation.

Personally I would prefer nothing, or a very small fairlead [open at top] from which you can flick out the line easily
