should be fine. the swing is 4metres, lets say there's 1 metre gap between your roofracks (front and back), that means that there will be approx 1.5m overhang off each rack. Assuming that you strap the kayak firmly to the racks (please dont use occy straps, string or chewing gum to do this)...then the yak should stay quite well balanced.

Of course, any Dukes of Hazzard style driving is probably not recommended while the yak's on top of the car...

Yeah you should be fine Ben. 8)

The Rola Racks should be rated for a certain amount of KG's, which the Swing should be comfortably under no worries.

From what I understand you are allowed 1.5m of overhang front and rear of your vehicle (I could be wrong but was told this by my old man?) so you should be ok with length.

Just make sure you tie it on securely....and if in doubt invest in some proper kayak carriers which would set you back betweem $150-$200 depnding on which tyoe you choose.

I'm going to go with the Thule Hull-a-Port carriers on the X-Trail now that our camper trailer I used to transport them before has been commandeered by the cartopper quinny (Viv's boat).

We travel long distances and I want the peace of mind that the yak is tied down securely for long trips.

Rola in a pad mount are rated to 50 kg. On the lancer you may find the gap between racks to be as little as 70cm. maybe a front and rear tie down might lessen any possible chance of an accident occuring. Or even better look in diy section for another yakkers solution to using a coupe. It is a very good idea.

thanks guys,

I think with some good ratchet straps and a tie on each end it will be fine,

cant wait should be ordering soon
Avoid rachet straps if you can, they can cause damage to your yak if overtightened.

Use straps that have cam locks instead.

A better way to keep your yak attached to the roof racks.

Cheers

Ben I carry both yaks together on Rhino racks rated 52kgs, and held down with rachet straps [having replaced cam-locks] and rope fore and aft.

Your car will easily handle a swing or similar yak

The police have and will FINE you if your kayak over hangs your car by so many centimertre. This varies in different states. Get the NRMA or whoever you use to put it in writing that you can put a 4.01 metre ontop of your car.

Keep this with you as once you get fined, even by mistake it is very hard to clear your name.

This way you can show policeman plod that it is ok.
