G'day fellas,
I'm new to the whole kayak thing but am keen to give it a go and have spent the last month trolling the forums for info on various kayaks and fishing rigs.
Being 6'2" and 85kg and wanting a kayak suitable for Ocean paddling I narrowed my selection down to the OK Prowler 13, a few of the Cobra range and the Scupper pro. I've sat in all of them and found the Scupper a bit short in legroom for me (I want a rudder).
I like the Tourer a lot and have found a good secondhand one for $900 with all the fruit and accessories. Its a 2004 model with the 1 hatch up front, a tank well at the back and centre hatch. It's had very little use, no scuffs or dents and the rudder system works flawlessly. The only thing that worries me is its been stored outside in the weather and sun for the last 12 months and looks a little weathered, the plastic hasnt dried and gone powdery but I'm just concerned it may have had its life expectancy reduced because of this.
I'm quite keen to buy secondhand as I'm not "hooked" on Kayaking yet but want to give it a go and do it with a suitable craft to spark my interest, but dont want to shell out $2000 on a setup if it turns out not to be my cup-of-tea.
Has anyone had much experience with the Cobra Tourers, anything to look out for?, is the weathering a problem in the long term?.
Any help/comments and greatly appreciated.

Gday Nod and welcome.

All over the GC there are kayaks and other plastic boats fully exposed every day as part of various hire fleets and they are copping a hammering over a number of years in all weather and seem OK, except for the fading.

If you are happy with the price my suggestion take the yak as a 2004 model will be as new still, my own are outside more than inside

Thanks for your views Richo its what I was hoping to hear. I cant see it being a problem as I'll be storing it under cover whenever it's not on the water.
Are there any other things to look out for when buying a used Kayak?, high miles..loose timing chain... anything?!!
