got up at 4am with a view to throwing a few lures around before the wind got up this morning.put in at the creek mouth near home and paddled across to
shag island to chase flatties on SPs.i did a few drifts along the lee side of the island but not much was happening with the water still a bit stirred up from yesterdays blow.
the wind died down a bit so i opted to head north towards gallaghers and fish along the weed beds and mangroves close to the island.
first cast with a squidgey wriggler into a sand patch resulted in a nice 26cm bream that gave a good account on the 2kg flouro.you ripper i thought so into the live well (10litre bucket) he went.
just as i paddled back up to give it another shot, whooshka up came the bloody wind.
oh well put the paddle away and started peddling back to the launch site.
apart from a few beam on waves, i had no dramas getting home by 8 am and averaged roughly 3.5 knots on the speedo.will give it another go this afternoon if wind drops like its sposed to

no mate, although i had to stop pedalling a few times when a larger than average wave looked like hitting me from the side.copped a few side on but didnt get too wet.if anything there might be a bit getting inside at the stern through the steering cables when im cruising.as i type the wind has dropped here so i might have an early lunch and head out again.

Well done mate, Adventure looks like a mean machine.

Still havent used the speedo, average of 3.5 knots is a decent effort... ill compare that when i use it this weekend on the tandem yak.

Nice report and photos!

with a lull in the wind (it dropped to 18 knots) i decided to go back out and fish the first of the run in where id got the bream this morning at 3pm.
on the way out of the creek i had a couple of casts which resulted in an undersized flathead around the 38 cm mark on the squidgey
anyway off i paddled up to gallaghers trolling the SP as i went.had a few small hits on the way up so stopped and drifted with the now increasing wind.
picked up a 26cm bream and then a 29cm bream on the edge of the weed beds that lie along the inside of Bribie as i drifted all the way up to gallaghers.
with the wind picking up again i decided to head for home but couldnt help myself halfway back and stopped for a cast that got slammed by another 29cm bream. by the time id landed him i was three quarters of the way back up the shoreline
after that hunger and the need for an alcoholic drink drove me home feeling satisfied.oh well only 4 weeks til im home again

Great pics mate, another spot to add to my 'to try' list. what sort of depth did you pick the flatties up in? I never know if i'm fishing too shallow or too deep for them. my lack of success tells me I'm definitely doing SOMETHING wrong :?

my own attempts to beat the wind yesterday saw me go to the caboolture river. the result was no fish and I got my car broken into :(

the only way is up from there ..

Greport and piccies Dave. Man I'm seriously liking the lines of those adventures.

That creek where you launched looks very fishy to me.

sorry i couldnt make it up there work told me friday plane when the date was today.talked to a surveyor during week whose working on the wall raising and said when its full theres going to be some snaggy country up the back of lenthalls
its wrights creek where the road to whitepatch crosses over.that was half tide in at 4.30am yesterday and yes when i got back last night mates had set themselves on side of road and picked up two flatties and a nice bream.had to fly up to rocky first thing this morning so couldnt join them.

were-trout
mate i got him in about 3-4 foot of water.most of the flatties i get in pumicestone are usually along sandbars or around sand patches in weed beds.the bream were caught in water that shallow that sometimes i couldnt use the mirage drive at all.now if i can get the big mullet that sit there as well to take a fly, lure, bait then should be fun and a great feed to boot

Heya Dave,

no problems mate. :D Congrats on th first fish too :D

If Lenthalls ever fills, there will be some real serious skinny water up the top of the arms. there is an awfull lot of real low swampy country (uncleared) that will flood and be unfishable. (great paddle country tho :D )

BTW, was treliably informed today, that Monduran Dam (near Bundarberg) is going off with barra & serious bass at the moment. Three blokes caught 60 plus quality bass and 17 barra approaching a metre in two sessions last weekend. mostly on Jackalls, mad mullet and mann's lures. I can feel a short road trip coming on. :D :D

thanks dude, that's what I figured. new to yaking and the only flattie i've got out of it so far came right on the edge of a sandbank. I can feel a pumicestone trip coming on in the next week or so, got to get the car window fixed first though :x

no worries ben
if you go up to whitepatch which is up past pacific harbour, youll cross a small creek with a beach on the left .this is where i put in,just paddle straight out then around to the right.there is deep water on the first bend where ive caught small snapper off the shore.if you keep going north youll come to the weed beds and gutters where i fished friday.if the wind is in the east or southeast you dont even have to paddle, just drift along and cast aroud the edges of the weeds.there are small outcrops of oyster rocks in places that will probly produce on the high tide, good luck mate
