I was fishing out of my favorite salmon spot yesterday arvo when one of the fishing charter boats (gamerec) - which must have been having a slow day - got desperate and veered from its course to see what I was doing. Inadvertantly, I had a double hook up on the go when they got there (the 2nd striking while they watched) so as you can imagine, they decided to hang around.

This normally wouldn't bother me a hell of a lot, but the skipper of the boat demonstrated no regard for safety whatsoever. It really was quite amazing how close he continued to trawl to where I was fishing. I actually had to paddle out of its way numerous times... and I got there first.

The most annoying thing about this is that there was miles of beach for it to cover, but no - it kept working the 60 - 70 meter area I was paddling in. How creative!

Justice was swift, however, because for the hour or so it remained, I actually hooked up more fish than the entire boat load of chartees. Hehe... mung beans.

The morals of the story are: 1: if for any reason you decide to go on a charter in PPB, don't use Gamerec because it appears to me as if the skipper has no idea what he's doing. 2: why go on a charter when you have a yak anyway?

Unfortunate about the inconsiderate and unsafe skipper but a great result nonetheless. Outfishing stink boats is always an enjoyable pastime. If I were you I'd be reporting him to the coast guard if you have the boat's rego #.

Unfortunately, due to the change in ownership of this web site and the lack of response by the owners to my requests to remove my email address from all administrative-level notifications and functionality, I have decided to remove my posts on AKFF. Thank you for the great times, the fantastic learning experiences and the many many fish. If you are desperate for the old content of this particular post, it is available below base64 encoded and bzip2 compressed.

That might be the one, yeah. Dirty bastiches. I didn't catch the rego... I didn't think to look, but I did catch the website URL. I'm going to email them later today and give them a piece of my mind.

Davey, yeah, it was a well worthwhile trip (it always is at this particular spot). 10 fairly large salmon, ranging from 1.5 - 3kg. The bigger ones really tested me out on light gear :)

5th for sure dob him in, but with the rego authority, if the same as up here safety factors are a big issue particularly with size varience between your respective boats.

That's an awesome catch. I would need a bigger yak if I were catching that many and taking a few home for a feed.

. . . . thinking, thinking . . . .

 When my wife asks me where are the big fish I caught from my yak 'cause she wants fish and chips, I can say, "If I had a bigger yak, like a Kyozito fancy one or whatever they are, then I would have the space to bring one home!" Then I can lead into, "About time I got a bigger yak ya reckon?" And she, thinking of all the big fish I can bring her will say yes.

That's a fantastic idea!

Not such a good idea because where would I get a big fish from? The little ones I get now from the fresh fish shop down on the jetty are expensive enough. I couldn't afford the big ones. Maybe I just have to learn how to catch them!
