hey guys,
well i finally got a trolling rod holder, ended up with the smaller scotty, as the larger one seemsa bit long for smaller but spinning reels.

the question is where is the most practical place to mount it on the swing,

has anyone found anything good etc

any tips appreciated

Hi Ben, I have a berkley adjustable on the left hand side at the end of the rudder- footrests on my swing. Just a couple of observations, I am left handed. If the angle of the trolling rod is fairly vertical the butt could interfere with the travel of the rudder pedals if you have them set at their maximum. Not a problem for me as I am a shortarse :) Any further forward & I would struggle to reach it without sliding forward out of my seat. So if I were you I would check for, ease of reach, doesn't interfere with paddle stroke or rudder-footrests & is on the side you prefer to retrive it from . Mal

fishin man:

also, think about which side you store your paddle on. if you have it on the left, and you store the paddle on the left, and you have a fish on, you will have to thread the paddle between the line and the yak.

ive found it easier to put the paddle keeper on my left, and the trolling mount on the right, about half - 3/4 way along my shin, on the gunwhale. the amount of rod-butt that sticks into the cockpit is negligible, and shouldnt interfere with rudder pedals. it will be far enough forward to be out of you paddle stroke, but not too far forward that you cant reach it easily.

if unsure, and probably best practice anyway, tape it down with sticky tape, jump in and paddle in the backyard. then pretend to get a fish on, stow your paddle, and get your rod out. if it is easy, drill her in! (i know ive set myself up here, so be gentle!)

just my $0.02

The rod needs to be easy to reach if you get a decant strike. So I say around the left shin-ankle.
