I just wanted to know if you could fit a Battery box inside the hull of an Espri? The reason being is there is a Very Very Very high chance i could be out fishing in my own by this saturday :D so im looking at sounders.
If you guys could give me a idea of some good and most importent CHEAP sounders that would be great

Heya Rik, Great news on the Espri. :) Hope the weather is good for you.

Not sure about the battery box - I haven't got that far yet myself, so I'm also interested in the response. (PeterJ can probably help here).

However, BigW have a hummingbird (PiranhaMAX 15) and a eagle cuda available cheap - around the 180 mark. They're nice and small, and seem to provide most features that I think I'll need.

Still trying to work out a good place to mount on the espri. If you have any thoughts, please post.

Hi rik, yes congrats on the new purchase. I recently installed a Navman4430 in my hobie and am very happy with it $250 in the shops, I got mine brand new on ebay for $200. Had to be patient though. As for the battery mounting I just put my 7ah in a drybag, wound the cable down with the bag and clipped it around a scupper tube. (mast tube actually) Works a treat, installs/ uninstalls in about 20 seconds, can`t move and is well out of the way. Steve.

Rik

Amart Allsports are selling superceded Cuda 128 at $140 cash if you push them hard.

I power a 128 with a 7ah battery its in an icecream container and sits on yak bottom on a square of non slip rubber inside the front hatch on the swing [would fit in espri easily], doesn't look like moving but will be a different story if I flip of course

One way to mount a battery is to cut a bulkhead out of closed cell foam and wedge it in your hull forward of your front hatch. Add a tight cut out for the battery and you are rocking.

not quite clear on what you're describing.
Are you saying...a battery so small it can be fitted into a pvc tube that is then capped (waterproof) and slipped into a rod holder. Then coming off the pvc, you'd have an extension that goes into the water for the transducer. Then, again on the pvc, is mounted the sounder??

Don't know much about electronics, but unsure if a camcorder / laptop battery is sufficient for a sounder. Also, you'd have to assume a forward rod holder - look at mockup pic. The pvc is a trial I did a few weeks ago to get the transducer into the water (sounder/ battery up front, rod holder behind seat - had wires going everywhere). The grey taped end goes into the rod holder.

You could be on to something if you can get battery to work.
