On the water at 05:00h, took the Sport out today instead of the Classic as it is supposed to be the fishing yak. Problem is I immediately reverted to the old philosophy of more gear compared to that I have been running recently.
Set 2 rods out to troll out through the moorings then on to a tailor troll out past the Naval Wharf. Net result was a spectacular double hook up that saw one keeper tailor landed and the loss of the second fish along with $15's worth of my favorite Rapala. So much for 2 rods are better than one. Stayed with a single rod for another 5 tailor, no choppers with one more keeper.
I passed over some structure on the way to Cobblers that appeared to stacked with fish, starting to think that this must be tailor central. Several passes trolling over the area produced nothing. Drifted over the area with SP (1/2 of 6" Gulp worm) and scored a first, Surgeon Fish. More drifts and another 2 Surgeons are brought on board (all C&R).
Headed off back to Balmoral, going through the moorings there is some surface action and trolled up 2 Silver Trevally.
Back at the beach for just after 06:30, todays lessons learned.
1. Keep it simple got a bit carried away with the gear and paid for it.
2. As soon as the sun clears the cliffs the tailor shut down. Something that I noticed a couple of days ago, today proved it.
Tailor for tea tonight, very nice it was to.
Just read Daves thread re the Kurnell trip and have decided I have to stop messing around and get my A into G with a view to Kingies.
