Another 05:00h start on the water at Balmoral. Lots of bait balled up at the south end of the beach between the moorings and the rocks, thought this is it! a red letter day coming on.

A good spattering of fish were showing on the FF amongst the bait and there were a few fish surface feeding. Trolled the area and cast HB's without any success. Could be a case of "match the hatch" and whatever I was lobbing at them wasn't interesting.

Trolled out to the Naval Wharf then direct line towards Grotto Point as there was some bird activity further out. Hit a few tailor in the middle of nowhere, no fish, bait or structure showing on the FF. Silver Rapala X-Rap did the damage again

Back off the water just after six.

Can be frustrating when fish are around but no takers. I haven't seen bird activity for years though I have seen some bait schools in the estuary.

When I paddle over to Pelican Is, I went to a small island beside it to stretch my legs and hunt for a bathroom. Some nesting gulls decided to fly around me and warn me off. Next second, out of nowhere, three stinkboats zoom to just in front of me. I wondered why, then realised, the flock of birds in the air had made em think the mackeral were into a bait school and they had hurried up to get a hook up. So much for privacy.
