As the title suggests looking to see if someone has or is in a similar situation. I may have done a little damage to my ass and lower back last night during a basketball game (pain is so intense!!!) I didn't sleep last night and struggle to move.

Wanted to know what your pain threshold is like and how long were you off the water?

A good mate fell a few meters from the top of a mobile scaffold and landed on a bucket. He broke his coccyx, couldn't sit without extreme pain. I remember the area was bruised black for a few days.

I think it was a couple of weeks of arse pain

the coccyx is the last five tiny fused vertebrae at the base of the spine ( these would form the tail in a tailed animal).
all of the spinal nerves which control the legs and bladder and bowel etc have exited the spinal cord before the coccyx, so there is no danger of any loss of function to muscles, bladder, bowel, penis etc.
however the nerves in the tip of the spinal cord (the corda equina, latin for horses tail) are like a horses tail indeed, lots of little fine bunches of nerves and very sensitive. so the injury certainly hurts.
i havent seen anyone have an op for years. the pain settles eventually and surprisingly ice is v good as it reduces swelling and takes the pressure off the nerve.
the radiology fellows are very good at injecting a 3 month dose of long acting numbing agent (similar to a child birth epidural) into the area, but they would not do it in the acute stage and hopefully it will settle before it gets to that stage. all the best

Twice? Ouch! I had an X-ray today but didn't show much...apparently. A scan is 'now needed' bloody thing is going to cause me more pain, I didn't think that could happen! Panadole Forte is limiting the pain but atm I'm thinking a new ass is needed!

Great to know it never gets 100% better haha

I was kicked in the arse while walking down the stairs 30 odd years ago when I was at school. A schoolboy prank that broke my coccyx caused me loads of pain for ages afterwards. Surgical removal wasn't an option then I believe it is now in certain cases.

Viagra will give some relief with regular use as you tend to exercise the surrounding muscles a bit.
Well thats what you tell the mrs anyway......drs orders.

The monster in law was kicked up the bum by her school principle with the same end result

A teacher broke mine with a hockey stick in my teens, apparently I was mucking around and that was the appropriate punishment.
I called him every name under the sun but have always regretted not hitting him.
God that hurt.

I found it a little strange at first asking medical advice on this forum.
Wow certainly shows that I have no idea what this forum is for as I haven't stopped laughing since reading all the posts.
Some really good and entertaining advice.
So has the Viagra idea taken off???

Acupuncture is good after the swelling goes down. I had it done on my broken arm, a couple month after the injury I was still getting the odd twang of pain. A few needles fixed it up good. Actually I go see a guy who does both Acupuncture and Osteopathy good combination, manages to keep my tired old body in one piece.

Buck, pretty much the reason I asked...always good for a laugh but also some brilliant ideas i.e.: the Viagra just another good excuse.

I would have hit the bloke to kezza if someone did this to me the pain is ridiculous! but unfortunately I did this to myself, was a massive rejection though so I take some comfort out of it.

We had a car accident 3yrs ago and my wife hurt hers after trying to get into the back seat to protect our 3month old daughter,
And still hasn't recovered and is likely to be like that forever??

Cheers

Well I should say turns out I didn't break it just "cracked" it (doctors words) its much better now but still hurts to put any pressure on it...so going to the gym tomorrow night and risking it but should be all good. If it hurt that much and I just bruised/cracked it then I feel for the poor buggers who have broken it because that was nearly extreme pain. Anyway can't wait to get back out on the water!
