I am up in Mackay until Sunday due to the death of my dad and was wondering if any one in Mackay kayak fishes. Plenty of creeks and good looking spots around here although it has been very windy all week. not to mention the 5 mtr tides.

Managed to get out for a fish the other night and got a nice 40cm diamond trevally. A first for me never caught one before, they are a very nice looking fish, of course I released him. Also managed another first on SP's. A nice big stingray, foul hooked in it's tail but damn it gave my little 7ft telescopic rod a good workout for about 10 mins.

Unfortunately, due to the change in ownership of this web site and the lack of response by the owners to my requests to remove my email address from all administrative-level notifications and functionality, I have decided to remove my posts on AKFF. Thank you for the great times, the fantastic learning experiences and the many many fish. Thanks guys

He certainly did enjoy his fishing. Our whole family does. I have so many fond memories of us all fishing in our little 10ft tinnie (2 adults 3 kids) up Constance Creek. Dad used to row towards the mouth with the outgoing tide and then he used to row back to the ramp with the incoming tide. Those were the days, always catching fish, gathering bait was the most fun either casting the net or up to our knees pumping yabbies.

We were searching through photos the other day and mum has so many of dad holding these giant barra, mackeral, jew, cod, yellowtail trevally and so many other different species.

He loved to fish and loved teaching us kids new tricks to catching the whoppers. He was a legend at knowing what fish was biting the end of his line. I reckon 8 times out of 10 he'd say this is a flathead or this is a barra and he was right.

His health wasn't good for the last few years and we knew he was going. As sad as it is he is better off now and I can't wait to go fishing with him again someday.

RIP Richard "Dick" Dunkley

Sorry to hear about ya dad, WayneD.

I am 3 hrs south of Mackay but I know the area. However, I was not into yaks when I was there so have no local knowledge. Should be some top fishing around the place. North of Mackay a few kms (30) is some wild looking coastline and beaches. Cape Hillsborough, from what I remember, would be great for some ocean yakking.
