After six months of wanting a kayak and several months of membership to this bulletin board I finally brought home a Hobie Adventure yesterday!!
I figured that the mirage drive is both a convience and safety factor for me as i am not very fit and i would want the ability to get myself out of trouble easier as i will probably do a lot of fishing on my own
. I got the base Adventure in the Hibiscus red as it is a little more visable, plus i figured that i can get Scotty rod holders from the USA for approximatley $40 inc. shipping, can make a cart with neumatic wheels for not too much and would want a slightly heavier anchor with more rope.
I haven't posted any pics yet as i haven't modified it at all. Hopefully i will get some pics when i take it out for the maiden voyage.
Plans at this stage are for two forward mounted Scotty Rod holders and a rear mounted Scotty downrigger (which my dad has bought for the boat but never fitted, I'm stealing it!!). I was also thinking that i would get a Scotty fly rod holder to use with my fly rods and short butt section spinning rods. This would allow me to mount the extra base on the opposite side to the downrigger and give me some flexibility on the water.
Other plans are for a sounder (Humminbird 565??) and eventually a GPS.
Can't wait to take it out although i won't fish out of it for a few trips until i get used to it. I'll let you all know how it goes and try to keep a tally of the number of times i fall in!!
