Heres the Mrs new Hobie Adventure Fish as purchased from Sailing Scene on the Weekend - good bunch of blokes - mentioned the forum and they were like old friends!
After a short paddle of the sport, SUV and the Adventure she decided on the Adventure and after paddling them all I have to agree that she made the right choice. Very close to as quick as the swing through the water and handled a fairly rough day at the dam without a paddle wrong.
Very nice yak indeed and you get the mirage drive which I can see will be invaluable for trolling and playing fish while still holding your rod.
Am I jealous - Absolutely!! How good is it?? Lets just say I'm seriously thinking of placing my much beloved swing in the for sale section.
Oh well at least I can borrow it till I can afford my own!!

Nice pick up Angles and what a great way to get the missus involved. I fear letting my missus onto my Hobie as I think I won't get back on it again due to her wanting to use it all the time. She has already started to talk about going for a pedal.

Thanks guys the missus is stoked,
red Pheonix -not sure about the maintanence - but the mirage drive is all plastic and stainless so a dunk in fresh water and some Inox will probably be the order of the day. Maybey the more experienced Hobie owners can help me out with that.
Yak attack shouldn't have too much trouble keeping up at this stage but she was moer interested in paddling for longer than usual on the first trip.
We will add some rods and chase some fish on the next paddle - the first one was a 5 Km paddle for her and the Hobie to get aquanted.

Don't worry Try hard - Ill be working on ways to squirrell my way into the Hobie on the odd occasion but it was the Mrs choice of YAK and I stayed out of the decision as much as possible. You know how it goes!!

Congrats Mrs and Mr Angles. One beautiful addition to the fleet. By all reports one of the great SOT`s from which to fish and paddle/ pedal. I read recently that Hobie have just released another gem, the Revolution, very similar to the Adventure only a 4 metre version. Steve.

The revolution eh?? could be worth a look if and when I unload the Swing! The Adventure is a great yak but it is big ( @4.8m) and is a handful on your own.

Heya Angles,

Sorry mate, just to clarify......the Adventure is only almost as fast through the water as the Swing?.....

I would have thought at the length of the Adventure, and the Mirage Drive it would have been a bit faster.....

Just curios as I am considering the Adventure at the moment, but if its actually slower than the Swing with the Mirage Drive I might look in another direction?

Sorry Dallas let me try to clarify
8) Initially I thought the Hobie felt slower than the swing - this is not true after paddling both with the lie detector (GPS)
8) On the paddle the Hobie is genuinely quicker by at least a couple of K/Hr this I spent a fair amount of time doing because I would not be prepared to buy something that was not at least as good as the swing on the paddle - i find this an enjoyable part of yakking even when not fishing
8) The mirage drive does feel quicker again but I have not had an extended time with mirage drive (except trolling @ slow speeds) but I did enjoy being able to hold a rod with one hand while doing this
8) It is possible to paddle and peddle @ the same time - this increases speed if you are in a hurry (I'm not all that often)
8) If you want more speed again try the Turbo fins - they are supposed to be very impressive - ask Gatesy he seems impressed
8) In short she looks fast and I believe she is - but add to that she is a damn fine fishing platform - overall a better proposition to the swing in both fishing and paddling in my humble opinion. Plus you get the whole package with a hobie - designed/modified by fisherman for fisherman

Here is a photo of the "Queen of the Nile" as she was dubbed on a recent AKFF trip at lake Mac recently with the Bimini in full swing - it has really made a difference to Sue's paddling comfort.
