Ive seen the the soft reef anchor Scott made and it got me thinking......that is the type of anchor im going to need.
I need my anchor to hold me in sand and in a fast moving river like the Maroochy river is.
I made this anchor but on a quick water test i need to make it stronger
Im going to do that tomorrow (See pic)
How do i know if im taking out enough anchor rope?
My rope is going to have a flote at the top and a rock climbing clip on the end, so i can just clip it on and off.

Rik, there's been quite a few posts on anchors -do a search>>anchor.

I think the rope length is generally have 3x as much as the depth. If conditions are poor, I've read you need more to hold ground.

BTW, just got whitworths catalogue in the mail and noticed they are selling reef pick anchors for around $7...

3 to 5 times water depth is enough rope to have out; if in doubt be on the longer side.

Those tines appear plenty heavy enough for a yak, if they are bending under load, make the tines like a hairpin curve from the shaft, my reefie has no curve at all.

In sand I prefer a dumbell rather than a reefie, but that is personal preference

What is a soft reef anchor?

What thickness of rope are you using? I use thin 2 or 3 mm cord as it is strong enough to hold the yak and it winds up easily on a ply 'handle'.

I got one of those little fold up 2lb anchors at BCF. Holds well in running tide flow up the creeks and also out in moreton bay. total cost = $15 including rope.
