G'day all
I thought I'd have a crack at buildling a down rigger , couldn't justify the cost of a scotty unit for the few times I would utilise it so this is the end result. Fairly happy with it and it only cost me $25 Happy Days !
I sourced all the stainless from a scrap off cuts ( thanks to the engineers at one of my job sites ) , utilised a scotty rod holder that can easily be reverted back to a rod holder when required. Used an old Alvey reel rescued from a junk pile that needed a new lease of life
Cut a stainless back plate to the shape of the scooty rod holder base so it couldn't move
Welded frame of Alvey to back plate .Also welded a stainless nut in position to suit original scotty bolt and position
welded a small D to the stainless rod and bought a small sailing pulley from marine shop
Finished Down rigger
