My wavedance kingfisher Scotty now has fishy cam & more!

Postby squizzy » Tue Mar 27, 2007 10:30 am

Well the wind finally stopped blowing in Melbourne and me & scotty got to go fishing. Whilst I waited a few days for the sikaflex to cure on my ff install I went to work on the beer in the fridge and the accessories on the Wavedance Kingfisher.

I initially fitted 4 scotty rod holders, my preference was for the circular flush mount. Two behind my seat and two right up the front. The 2 front holders were a little too far away for my liking for bait fishing so I installed another 2 closer to my seated position. 6 holders so far!

The very front holders with extensions are great for trolling and storage but also can be used to hold the scotty anchor rope gadget when I anchor from the front. I installed an anchor trolley but Im not sure if it can be seen in the pics.

The mid front holders accomodate a bait rod whilst I flick around sp's or hb lures. Having lost a net on my second trip, I put clips on the front cover and also installed a leash to the new enviro net that got a foot trimmed off it. It cant be seen in the pics but right up the front, yes you guessed it another flush mount scotty holder which will hold my video camera extension mount (still work in progress).

I got the high backed seat for greater comfort. Behind the seat lives the eski come anchor storage system. On top of the eski I have another scotty mount which holds the anchor rope gadget, some occy straps to hold down the rope winder and also the sea anchor. Having the extra weight secured to the lid I also fitted a 60lb leader to the side of the lid to stop it fron being ripped off when I opened it. Screwed to the side of the eski is a pvc pipe with a drain cap on the base to protect my kayak from the anchor and chain which fits neatly inside.

I remove the anchor rope gadet from the lid of the eski when anchoring up and fit it either in the holder behind my seat or right up front. I added some extra occy straps to the rear cover for more storage. The sounder was mounted on some heavy duty cutting mat then onto ...yes your right, the scotty ff mount and placed on the centre consol area between my feet.

When Im done fishing, everything is unpacked and removed an there no potruding bits n pieces and all the hoders are capped with plugs fitted underneath and so far all appear waterproof.
All in all 9 scotty mounts and everything packs up in to the eski & one big plastic tub.....now for the tackle box!!!!

jobs still to do:
Video camera mount up front
Better method of securing battery for sounder
12v light on rear for those early morning launches, too many stink boats around franga not to have one.
Rudder

Thanks to everyone for the help and postings, I have found the forum an endless supply of great information now all I have to do is get out there and get some fish......maybe.......just being out with scotty will do!

Not a good pic of my anchor rope gadget, but when you lift the rope upwards you can let out or pull in rope and when you release it locks the rope in position and like all the scotty stuff can be rotated to any angle and removed and fitted anywhere else.

Looking good Squizzy! :D All those Scotty mounts must have cost a small fortune
I fitted an anchor trolley to my Hobie not too long ago and I've realised they are a must have if you are going to anchor / drag a drogue and fish... even useful at times to attach a tow line.

lookin good mate!
Swish go the thighs boys swish swish swish,
His legs may be huge but his yak's movin' quick.
The paddler strains and heaves but is beaten by a mile,
While the paddler catches up the swisher fishes for a while

Hi Mick,
I bought all my stuff from the USA. I tried locally but couldnt get all what I needed so I did some research on the net and found one company in the USA that did a great job. All the items were a great price, were in stock and took a week from the time I ordered to delivery in Frankston. I paid a little extra for fedex to get the stuff here (around $80 but overall it was still a lot cheaper than getting it locally, so I just bought more & more
I have been dealing with Karen who got my order out the same day as I ordered it, heres there web site, I cant give them enough praise, good prices good products and super quick delivery!

when you got the kayak bug, you just gotta get your gear...and quick

Beauty Squizz - that rig will certainly help you deal with the varied (and sometimes hectic) conditions & fish.

The name is very appropriate I reckon, although I think you have forgotten something. I don't see a Scotty downrigger bolted on the bloody thing yet. Shame on you. Have you weighed the thing with everything attached yet? Remember it's only rated to 150kg.

Seriously well done Squizz. Bloody awesome looking yak there. So accessorised with Scotty stuff it almost hurts, like it did to your wallett no doubt.
Cheers Paul

Wait for it occy, I have plenty of free mounts up front, I have been reading kingfisherIII's posts on westernport bay and he uses a downrigger to get the baits down deep in the fast running tides of wpb with great success. As for the weight im well under I think  , but when I catch that big bronze whaler i will just have to dive in tarzan style with my knife, slit its throat and drag it in by the tail.....or maybe cut the line and paddle like mad, my arse is getting close to the water!

Peter J - i went to a boating/chandlery shop on hartnett drive seaford and told him I wanted a floating rope that would not get messy. recall reading a post somewhere that spoke about getting your anchor up asap, chuck the rope to the side and when the weight is secure wind up the rope. Its nice and soft too

bpmick - heres the link I posted in the diy section on my transducer mount.
http://www.akff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6659

captainnfur - the brand is a techni ice eski, I bought it from a place in frankston that makes the worlds greatest eski's (and some are huge) and also sell techni ice packs that stay frozen for days. Next time I drive by I will pm you the details. I thought about a kingfisher eski post in the diy section. The area behind the seat in the wavedance kingfisher is 300x400 your std eski size. I pulled all the screws out of the hinges and latches, removed the skin and replaced the foam lining with a hard pvc foam core board so I could screw a heap of stuff to it. Im not finished yet, I think my 12v led anchor light might get mounted opposite the anchor tube.
