Woke up to a sunny day for a change,a great day for a paddle.Didn't bother with the hobie as I thought there would be no fish in the middle of the day, so threw the sea kayak on the roof and one rod and a few lures.
Put in near the Captain Cook bridge and put on a deep diving lure and headed towards Kurnell. Was just coming up to the old oyster leases in shallowing water and noticed the rod jerking as the lure bumped along the bottom, then the rod bent double and the reel screamed .Damn I thought , snagged the bottom.Put lots of pressure on the rod to pull me back towards the snag, and it started to come up. A few minutes later this shape appears in the murky water.Jeez it looks like I have hooked a small wobby ,a bit closer and I realise it is a flathead, and a good one, what do I do now? no net,no lipgrips . So I tighten the drag , put the rod in the holder and paddle for the nearest shore. Unfortunately it had swallowed the whole lure and was hooked deep in the stomach , so was not able to release it ,but it did provide a delicious meal for four. A p.b of 73cm.
