Moy Pocket Bass

Go on then, tell us how you went...

Moy Pocket Bass

Hello again fellow Yakkers :)

Another weekend, another trip. This weekend I headed to a place I found in my work travels.

Location is Moy Pocket and the System is the Mary river. Its a tough little place but very interesting country. Best of all it has about a million snags  and some of Australias most agressive fish including Australian Bass, Mary River Cod, Spangled Perch and Saratoga as well as a famous local the Lung Fish.

Friday night, I convince the Boss that we should head out to the good country for a paddle and a flick in the morning... Gold!

Up at 6am for an acceptable start (in terms of the better half) and load quickly for a 7am takeoff.
Somehow after a fuel up and a brekky stop we get to the drop zone by 8:30am?( its only a 40 min drive from home...)

Get down to the water for a quick perusal of what is to come, and quite surprised of how much water there is ( last time I went, there was only half as much).

Alright, time to get stuck in! Take the yak down and let the Mrs go for a paddle while I spend some time walking the banks, flicking some structure.
About an hour passes and not as much as a strike or a follow. Tried 2x divers, 2x spinners, a popper and a walker.
Starting to be a bit concerned, then the Mrs turns up and I'm off for a Yak :)

9:30am
With renewed hope I head off down river and get to some deeper water. Flick for a little and no love, so move on :? See a bird... you'll see ;-) lots of snags and no action... WTF!?
Suddenly there was a big gulp of the surface about 10 meters to my left... flick but still nothing.

11:00am
down a couple of drops now, finding it hard to deal with the current.... moving so fast I can't fish anything. So I pull off to the bank and Flick a massive log/tree sitting right in the middle of the river. Looks really good but maybe a little shallow.... about 1m deep right in the snag.
peppered for about 10 mins before I try something different :D I cast to the left of the structure ( current is running left to right) and let the floating diver float right into the snag..... First try, flick..... WACK! On! and not a bad fish. A couple of short runs back at the snag and I get him turned away coming back to me and then onto the Bank. Measures in at 40cm, a new PB for me, up from 38cm.

11:10am
Decide to walk down the river a little as it will be a big effort to get back in the kayak through these currents, and there is easy access on the banks.
Find a nice little spot where the river bends and slows nicely into a deep pool. A couple of casts right up against the opposite bank and BANG! On again, this time good head shakes and some solid runs( if I was in the bay I would have screamed out SNAPPER!) I gain control and bank another nice fish, this time an estamate of around the 40cm again :)

A big paddle back and I find the Mrs is gone and car nowhere to be seen.... LOLWUT?
She turned up about 45 mins later and so ends a brilliant day.

Here is the video.... can anyone recommend a good editing program?

I am very keen to get out with others in these areas if anyone wants to plan something? Closed season is coming up for Bass and I would like to get out at least one more time b4 it shuts down. PM me if you are keen.

Still loving it :)

Thanks guys I loved making it :)

I'm new to the whole thing so I'm sure to get better. Looking to find better editing software if anyone has a suggestion.

New Yak soon will provide some better footage( I will setup properly)

Thanks again,

Richo

A fun day Richo...
Like the video - what are you using now to edit?
A great easy one (comes with a suite of other stuff too..) is by AVS - it's an on-line lifetime support purchase - free trial to check it out.
Maybe Adobe Premier Elements for the next step up?
Good fish mate!

Thanks guys,

Bruce, I'm just using Windows Movie maker at the moment...
not too bad for a start but as I learn what I'm doing I can also see the limitations it has. Probably going to try Adobe next,
Mrs has a version of it from work, think its fairly new too, maybe a year old?

Ty for the comments guys, I'm just having fun making these little movies and it has been good to try and get the other half out to help.

Cheers,

Richo
