NSW 6/5 Pittwater, maiden voyage

Well it has taken a lot longer than I had hoped but I finally got afloat on Sunday afternoon. First paddle in my new ‘yak. :D

Had no great plans for a major fishing adventure but couldn’t leave the rod at home either. Launched for the maiden voyage at Bayview and paddled up past Scotland Island and then up the west side of Pittwater. Had a turtle for company for part of the trip which was pretty special, it seemed totally unfazed by me being there. After a few minutes making sure I could paddle in a straight(ish) line I clipped on one of my favourite shallow diving plugs and towed it around. Nothing doing till I turned to head back. A couple of clicks of brag, so I stopped paddling to wind in and get rid of the weed... then off it went! Short fight later and the ‘yak’s first fish is boat side. I’m secretly glad no one was there to watch the next few minutes... what do I do with it now?? Anyway I managed and was soon on my way. Same lure accounted for another similar sized bonnie a bit later on. I could not have been happier – back at Bayview after a top three hours on the water with two fish to boot.

The ‘yak must have grown by about 30kgs as I could barely lift it back onto the car...

Note to self – I need lip grippers. :?

Nice work Joshua.- It sounds like you settled into to your new vessel very quickly, those bonnies can tie you up fairly quickly when at close quarters in a 'yak.
I like the lime green colour - looks great - now its time to accessorize the vessel and name it of coarse .....................Greenfish
Sometimes going backwards is a good thing!

Well done Joshua. Its a well known fact that kayaks are much heavier coming out than going in! Cheers, Dave.
