Call me Ishmael (S.E. Qld 5/7/12)

Good evenening all,

The quest to land my first creature of the deep begins again at first light again tomorrow, well maybe not first light but something more reasonable like 08:00 am.

Many of you have read the tale of my first venture into the unrelenting deep blue aboard the mighty Foxx an adventure that saw me confront the challenges of kayak fishing head on and despite comming off second best that day I survived growing stronger for the experience. Actually I took my lickings and ran home to drown myself in a bottle of red wine.

The vehicle that serves the purpose of carrying myself and the Foxx to the waters edge is packed and ready. Rods have been rigged with new lures with back ups at the ready. All that lays ahead is a good nights rest although the anticipation of what the morning brings will make sleep hard to find.

If any of ye find the courage to ditch work for the day the Foxx and I will be launching from Dohles Rocks at about 08:00 am.

Re: Call me Ishmael (S.E. Qld 5/7/12) off to Dohles rocks for a days kayak fishing. Sadly despite best efforts I was to return with an empty fish bag. I am putting it down to experience and feel the more I get out on the water and practice the better I will get with a haul of fish an inevitable outcome.

Despite that it was a beautiful day out paddling. I set out towards Bramble bay and the bridge that crosses to Redcliffe. Paddled against the tide both ways but again not to much effort required as the Foxx seems to paddle rather well. Stopped at a sandy outcrop on the way back to cast from the shore for a while before heading back to the car. A six hour round trip all up having taken my time to paddle in and out of all nooks and crannies along the way.

I didn't notice any of the motor boaters catching anything either so feel a bit better for it especially seeing I got some good execise as well. Below is a picture of my yak with gear, more gear still to come but I guess that will always be the case. Looking forward to Sunday now and another voyage with any luck I will have a tale worthy of Herman Melville.

Its just like that sometimes. I'm heading out in the Maroochy Sat morning if you are keen, might shake your 3 match hoodoo.
At least you are staying dry these days m8, plus at this stage you know for certain that the next fish you catch will be the PB from the yak

Cheers for the offer Richo but I do have to spend sometime with the family and I had promised Saturday plus there are those jobs arou d the house. What I hear at home now is if your knee is good enough to go kayaking it should be good enough to finish off the floor (redoing floor stopped when I buggered my knee). Hopefully next time.

Staying dry is a good thing although if you aren't getting wet your just not trying hard enough. In summer I probably will enjoy the odd dunking. I didn't. See anyone else catching fish yesterday so am still holding out hope that it is not just me.

Hey Brian,
Sorry to hear the lack of fish, donuts suck!!
In regards to the photo upload problem I downloaded an app called resize photo and that makes it really easy.
If you are just using soft plastics or hard body s maybe it would pay to get some fresh bait, I know alot of guys don't like using bait but sometimes the fish seem to only be hitting bait and not lures.

Cheers for the advice Big. Keen to have success with lures so will keep perssisting for now but do have a rather large collection of worms in the back yard that should start to get nervous soon. Photos below.

Just curious who is Herman Melville ? Any relation to Reuben Melville? Or is it just a QLD thing?
