QLD: The Tangle catches a Wivy Bass

Postby Nativeman » Thu Jul 05, 2012 10:00 am

Folks

I have been mucking around trying to make my own lures the last couple years and some of my early versions were appalling. Recently I set my mind to it with a lot of help from a lure maker, Anthony Barnard from Deep River Lures I made my first decent lure, the Tangle.

I finally managed to get to Wivenhoe this week after the weather decided to play ball, it was a lovely day on the water with receding winds and the dam turning into a mill pond. I went looking for schools of bass on the flats but only came across schools of catfish, I caught eight monsters.

On the way back to Logans Inlet I was swimming one of my lures for the first time and I was on with a massive hit, after a short battle I managed to net a fat as 50cm Wivenhoe bass. It was a special moment with me scoring a superb fish on my very own lure. The lures are hand carved from Brown Beech, Hand sanded, with an air brushed finish......

Well done mate!

I paddled for 6 hours around Wivenhoe the other day (also launched at Logans) and didn't get a single hit...not even a stinking catfish.

Will have to head back and try it again.

PS. Lures look great...and obviously work great as well!

Lures look good Sel, well done.

Sel first time for one of your RAG lures to feature in the reports, and a well deserved result for the Tangle which all look good mate.

Good effort with the homemades Sel certainly a bit addictive if you have the time and especially satisfying when you catch what your targetting with them. Big catfish hey ! Something I've not caught on the flyrod and maybe worth targetting if they are in numbers with a sinking line. What sort of depth are you finding these catties may I ask. Cheers Pat.

Nice work Sel. The lure manufactures around the world will be in despair, now you wont need to buy any more lures.
