Was based in Wagga for 8 years, and fly-fished the snowies regularly... have done it in winter, and seen the ice sprays on the rod-runners... I bought the Suzuki Sierra purposely to do the mountain tracks... However... the urge to do the hard scenes again is lost and gone forever... might have something to do with age...

After leaving Wagga, I felt that I was a misplaced trout fisho, and although I was reared up here on the Redcliffe Peninsula, took me ages to fit back in... did a lot of trips down South for the specklies, but since hitting the water in kayaks, I now have my salt-water mojo back.

Bugger the freezing fishing!

Unfortunately, they are dirtier than coal.

Some from Down South have been known to dislike the heat in Qld... but I wouldn't call them whingers, nor suggest they were a trifle unwashed.

Truthfully, Koich, wouldn't you really like to live in a place where in my entire life of 71 years, I've only ever heard of frosty mornings twice? My mother told me of the first one and the other instance, I actually went to wipe water off my windscreen and found it lumpy!

Trev... If you know how to prepare trifle like that, how about preparing one after you've sorted out your back, and I'll visit you, and bring Helen so you can teach her how. That really looked scrumptious!

Mate... it looks like I hit a raw nerve with this thread, or some not-so-nice comments I added.

It looks like a war of the States comin' on... bigger than State of Origin footie!

I'll just sneak out the back door while all the brawlin's goin' on with the big guns...

Well no, actually.

I tend to leave Canberra when the weather gets hot and go to the other side of the globe where it's cold.

I like to keep myself warm on the hard work of every one else in the country.

I guess it's a case of ... different courses for different horses!

I'll just visit the cold place for a couple of weeks, then think it's great to get back home.

:D :D .

wah, i was listening to a bit of parliament at lunch as i drove around (god knows why) they really do hate each other. this is not good.
i had a bit of a think secondary to our state of origin touch footy match for pollies and i have some other ideas on how to get them working as a team.
these are straight out of business workshops but heres a few

1 all politicians have to enrol their kids in canberra schools. the labour members have to pick up the kids(car pool) to take to school and libs have to pick them up (all of them that is ) to take home. this will start to heal some of these animosities.

2 at lunch time in parliament , the female members have to go and prepare salads and deserts together and the male members have to cook a bbq and then they all have to sit down to lunch labour alternating liberal. etc

3 members will be expected to coach school sports teams made up of both parties

4 school camps , all to attend and to share tents labour with liberal.

i'm quite serious. i think if they could spend some time with the other side it would help with teamwork and stability. and it would be hard to be insulting to the other side if you have to pick their kids up after school.

you agree.

It's 13.8 C and raining in sunny SE Qld. You poor bastards....you spend 6 months with this every year, and you claim to be sane? I do wonder.

When I visit my family in Queensland I am subjected to being in Logan.

Ergo, the whole state is rubbish.

I reckon if I got to Canada for a year I'll be envying the ACT'ers their warmth, not hating their cold.

I moved from Sydney to Bungendore. I loved having seasons. Less seasonal down here. I miss my frost and snow capped mountains.

Canada is indeed another thing entirely. -5 is one thing, -30 is another thing entirely. Just think of the difference between +5 and +30. I'd die sleeping in my top of the range -25 'Mont Main Range' sleeping bag in northern Canada. I have one piece of advice JF. Buy a pair of Sorels as soon as you get there (mmmmmm Sorels).
