Hi all,
I have recently acquired a yak and with the help of some bright minds here, have just about finished fitting it out.
Now that I'm ready to hit the water, I'm keen to start planning some trips to put the boat to use and hopefully catch some fish along the way! I'm hoping to get some ideas from experienced yakkers on the forum. In short, I'm not interested in any salt water work as I have a trailer boat that gets a workout offshore. I've also done bass to death over the last few years, so I'm keen to give these blokes a miss for a while.
What I'd love to do is some 2/3 day trips chasing natives in the western drainage systems, however I really don't have much of a clue where to start!
I'm hoping for some general pointers to help start me in the right direction - things like river systems and launch and and pick-up points suitable for overnight trips - the more remote the better!. Any info on what river levels to look for and to look out for would also be appreciated, as well as what I can expect to encounter fish wise and any key obstacles in the river to be aware of.
I'm based in Sydney but I'm happy to drive to just about anywhere in NSW to have a go! Some of the rivers in the New England region have caught my eye over the last few years so any info on this region would be much appreciated. I'd love to tag along for a trip if you are looking for a fishing buddy also!
Thanks in advance and please let me know if this post is better suited somewhere else.
