Why not glue felt to the soles of some water shoes. End of trip remove said felt. No need for expensive shoes. Might work, just need some good glue, felt is cheap otherwise. Or buy the felt shoes and wash them really well, roundup????

Bleach.

The problem with felt soles is that you need interchangeables. Do not try walking anywhere other than in streams in felt soles. It's like putting KY jelly on a jumping castle.

No my suggestion was all about fashion, Queanbeyan style. Zero to do with any manner of normalcy let alone a practical suggestion to Eric's dilemma.

I actually thought you were just quietly taking the piss and suggesting that I develop an opposable big toe in the manner of many locals of some towns just northeast of here - although that's more a blessing of poor genetic diversity amongst cousins than surgical digit re-assignment.

Then I got this in the email.

interesting
had just finished reading an article that said the only responses that companies to date had come up with as an alternative to felt was clumsy, coarse grips

and theres the proof

Glossyfoot website has an interesting range of latex footwear that may tighten your grip on things.

Well I was. There can only be one Beast, though. Find your own superpower.

What about some used golf shoes? Not the patent leather ones, the sporty trainer kind.

I ended up going a pair of these. Won't have the grip of felt but I wanted more of an all rounder I could use walking to, from and around rivers and creeks.

Some excellent reviews. Price was good but postage stung a bit.
