On the FishSA forum some reporting big mullies and sharks drifting through the mouth on long drifts under floats. In the Coorong itself some reports of smaller schoolies and mullet. If the fresh water flow is up, the fishing isn't too good, but it is dropping gradually.

I'm heading down there on the June long weekend. You are welcome to join me, but I'll post a report when I come back anyway. I'm heading down there anyway just to get away and do some kayak cruising/camping. The fishing will be a bonus.
Water lapping against the hull, warm gentle breeze, fish straining on the line... how much sick leave do I have?

I was working on Tauwitcherie Barrage last Thursday. There is still a lot of fresh water flowing into the coorong so I am guessing the fishing is probably not too good still. It should improve when the flows drop off but I think that will still be a while off yet.
I must be improving everyday!

Yep - well close to it anyway - but its a long drive around - via the Narrung Ferry. No public access via Goolwa.

You can get fairly close if you go via the Narrung ferry. You will come to a locked gate eventually ( 35° 35.886'S 139° 1.627'E) where you could launch and paddle about 1.5Km.
You can get there via Hindmarsh Island only if you are working for SA Water.

No but you can put in off Hindmarsh Island and paddle to the barage. There is a hand operated lock you can get through there that's fun too. You often see hundreds of big carp and redfin swarming around different points on the barage where there are leaks. Great mully bait if you long-drift big chunks from the coorong side down through the mouth. I plan to give that a go when I go down there next month.

What OldDood said... Scupper and I drove to Tauwitchere via Narrung last December. You can get reasonably close - this is the launch site near the gate OldDood was talking about..

Is it easy enough to find? What sort of length drive is it?
Was the fishing worth it?

Yes, easy enough to find. Most maps show the road - 2wd all the way. I reckon it was about a 2hr drive. The fishing was not worth it the day I went - I ended up with one tiny mulloway and a handful of small salmon trout. I won't be going back until the flow reduces a lot and reports start to trickle through.
