Go on then, tell us how you went...

Andybear you did the best and only thing possible in those circumstances, while not dangerous they weigh a ton it takes 4 people to lift a fully grown one.

AWTY .... turtles somehow instinctively go back to the rookery where they were born to lay; perhaps Mon Repos off Bundy but so far I don't think it has been shown that the turtles residing in SE Qld necessarily came from there. I spent a lot summers yonks ago doing volunteer work at the Mon Repos rookery, tagging measuring, counting eggs and the like and still have connections. Those were long summer night shifts 8) and hot days to sleep.

Cheers

I had a recent encounter with a turtle that was floating nearby. I noticed that there was a couple of big cobes swimming around with him. So i lobed out a livie in there direction and i watched the cobes come towards the bait. Except the bloody turtle came and ate the livie. Twice he did it to me before taking off. Lucky he didn't hook up, but unlucky not to get a cobe.

Thanks Carnster

Scarby has zillions of them.
Anyone who has fished it exstentisvly has probably hooked up on one. It's game over...they're very powerful. You try for ahwile to get back your precious jighead, leader and SP, but it is game over.

Very true Trev... lost some of my best lures to those big sods... one got so pissed with my efforts to get close and personal that it came up under my kayak... scared the living crapper out of me. I was very lucky not to go arse-over.

I snipped the line right smartly after that, and wished I'd done it before that instead.

There are beach spots on the Peninsula where they come on the beach and lay their eggs... I previously thought that they only did it up North, but I've actually seen it myself... not the actual happening, but the unmistakable drag-marks on the beach where the old girl had dragged herself up the beach, the upturned spot where the eggs were laid and covered up, and where she'd crawled back to the water.

Two days later, the council had some repair work to do on the beach, and guess what spot they picked to do that work? Right where the old girl had laboured for a while.

Apparently the main beach at Scarby is not where they do it regularly, and where they do it frequently is not advertised, as there are some that would rob the site of the eggs.
