Mainly catching rays - the kind that give you vitamin D but the camera caught some footage:

I'm looking forward to taking it out in the surf for a more up-tempo video. The one whiting was caught on a little circle hook by the way, which ended up in its lip. I'll carry on using them on the smaller fish and see how they go.

Thanks Jamie. Though it'd be nice if the fishing were a little more intense I don't think I've ever regretted a trip, even the donuts. It's too relaxing for that.

Great video Squidley, looks like the setup works well and those images are nice an sharp. I am sure we will see some bigger fish landed in weeks to come. As a matter of interest is the 360° LED light light is that 12v running off a sealed 12v battery? I am looking around ATM and haven't decided what to use.
Cheers

Hey Squidley,

Great video, keep up the good work!

Do you mind if I ask what size circle hooks you use when targeting whiting? I want to give them a go myself.

Thanks.

Rockster, it runs on 3 AAs forever and it's very waterproof but it's $45 and the battery compartment doesn't fit the fractionally fatter rechargeables I have: Tektite 4 LED Mark III Marker light  http://www.rowingboatlights.com/generallights.html

Here's a DIY that I was considering: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=53164

It was more of a hassle than expected finding a light weight waterproof battery operated light but the Teklite's doing its job.

Andy, they were size 6, and I'm sort of sure it was hooked before I picked the rod up. I'll carry on using them and see how it goes.

Thanks for the info Squidley. I bought a torch style single LED which runs of 3 x C cells from Whitworths but I haven't tried on the kayak yet but suspect it may not be bright enough so I am looking for something else. Look forward to some video catching fish.
Cheers.

Bob - you need an "all around white light" on the kayak after dark - so others can see you - this is a legal requirement - but you also need a good head light to fish with - this is what will give you the light to bait up, check tackle etc - it can be turned off when not needed. If you get a good head light, this can also be used alert power boats that may not have missed your " all around white light" - which can happen when near all extra light sources off the metro coast.
My "all around white light" is not super bright, but bright enough. My head light is very bright to enable me see what I need to - and has a strong beam with flashing mode that I can use to shine at any on coming boats if I'm concerned that they might not have seen me.

Thanks Andy, yes I have a new headlamp which is quite a bit brighter than the old one, but just want to make sure that the all arround light is bright enough so it doesn't get lost in the background. Famous last words though, I need to be out there when it is pitch black first, just a confidence thing :-)
Cheers
