Whilst this is a true statement, it is fraught with danger to charge a
SEALED lead acid battery with a standard, say, car charger - even a 1 amp one which most of the cheap ones at the SCA or KMart or wherever are not. Unless you want the battery to look like a football if you don't watch it close enough. The adjusting sensors that Artie mentions are often 4 amp chargers that lower to 1 amp with they sense the battery is charged but if that battery cannot vent then woompa - football time. Who wants to sit there watching it all the time?
A proper SLA Charger cannot overcharge the battery and has an indicator to tell you when its good to go. SImple as that.
You could also do a search of the forum for the exhaustive number of posts saying this exact same thing. Not just my words.
