Fantastic fish to catch - absolutely !!
Well done.... :)
I've hooked a couple between Lake Cooroibah and Lake Cootharaba in the Noosa River, but I've heard of many more at the mouth of the Brisbane River.

Nice catch!

I'd be up for a run on the Brisbane river if this is what's on the menu :D Where would you launch from? I'm thinking Vic Lucas Park?

Ryan, it would be easier to launch from the little boat ramp at the back of breakfast creek wharf in the creek itself. Most of the fish in that area come from blokes fishing live baits or dead prawns from the pontoon at the mouth of the creek on dusk or after dark. Expect to spend long hours for no fish though. I have caught a couple from the bank there and they go like smoke! If you are going to bait fish for them, use a 30-40lb leader at least as they have quite sharp teeth which will wear through the leader in a prolonged fight. I have lost several this way and it's really frustrating. The tide really hoots through there and be wary of the city cats which work past there. If you are going to be on the water after dark in a yak around that area be vary careful and make sure you are well lit. Another very productive spot for them and also popular is around the big pipeline at the port.
Cheers,

Jon

Ah yeah, I see the launch spot now. Thanks for the heads up! I'll be sure to run some heavy leader too. Was thinking I'd have a baited line in whilst drifting and flicking the soft plastics around. Will be doing an early morning fish I think, run out tide is around 6am tomorrow so with a bit of luck I'll try and get down there then...if I don't sleep in ;-)
