Buying my first Yak

Postby indianna » Wed Mar 21, 2012 9:13 am

Gday all,

I live in Melbourne and looking at buying my first yak. I want to use it mainly for fishing(however down the beach would be good too), i am a beginner in both kayaking and fishing and would be looking to use it in the bay(not far from shore until i get confidence up), lakes and rivers. My knowledge of yaks is virtually none existent. Hoping someone can help me in suggesting a kayak. I have budget of around $600. If i really enjoy kayak fishing will then be looking to upgrade at a lately date, but I don't want to waste the money if it doesn't get used.

Hi,

I'd highly recommend going to see the guys over at Wavedance Kayaks at the factory in Seaford.
Most of their kayaks are within your budget, they're quite helpful too.

If you ask nicely they'llgive you a test paddle in one of the models they have on the floor too, when I bought mine from them, a mate and I took a few designs out and gave them a test paddle first. Decided on the same Kingfisher I paddle today, almost two years later.

Cheers

Thanks Umage,

Do you know what a kingfisher is worth? Or can you recommend a kayak?
Also do you know what the guys over at Melbourne Kayaks are like? There Kayaks?

dont quote me but about $ 900 these days from wavedance factory I think theres a seat and paddle in the deal

it alway worth asking if they have any seconds - a few guys I fish with bought NQR kingfishers at quite a reduced price and the small faults make no difference to the yak

by the way the kingfisher is a great kayak and about the best value for money yak around , I have one that I bought from the factory in seaford about 2 years ago it get used almost every W/E
