NSW: Kurnell, First Blood.

Hello All

Finally had a break in the wind and rain to take the new kayak out for its first fish. Headed out from Silvers Beach in to a stiff Nor Easter the new kayak paddled nicley, i noticed a little bit of weather cocking and would benifit from a rudder in bad conditions. But it travelled along nicely very smooth almost slick feeling through the water, won't set the world on fire with its speed, but it was very respectable for a 13 foot kayak. It had more cockpit room than I'm used to, I really enjoyed that part of it. I'm looking forward to finishing the fit out.

Back to the report. There's one spot near the hot water outlet that i always like to check to see if any kings are home. So headed straight over. This one is hard to spot and often your right on top of it before you know it. That was the case today and I was worried I'd blown my chances. As luck would have it I hadn't first cast with an unweighted Slugo style lure and I was on. Only a little tacker but fun none the less. And a nice first species for the maiden voyage.
Sent him back happy. I'd blooded the yak, well figuratively.

Cheers
Ant

Good to see there are still some kings around, even if they are straight outta the nursery.
I saw a bunch of fish busting up just off the nets at Sans Souci tonight on my way home, and from the top of the Captain Cook bridge, even though it was hard to see, I'm pretty sure there was another bunch of fish busting up near Towra, so there are still pelagics in the bay.
They might stick around for a while too, as the water in the bay is considerably warmer than the water heading south just out of the heads.
Sunday is looking good weather wise, who's up for a fish?

That would have been good. But Sunday mornings are out for me. The kids swimming lessons keep me off the water.

What a sweet ride that is, and I just lurv the colour. Little trick I learnt Camel was to put some white tread tape (you can get it from Whitworths) along the keel to save on the inevitable scratches. It seems to stick to that plastic like the proverbial.
