Moken 12

Hi
Im new to Kayaking, so new that I havent got one yet.
Not new to fishing either landbased and in my runabout and am keen to combine my interest in fishing while at the same time getting fit.
Has anybody got any experience they can share about the Moken 12's? Theres one for sale seconfd hand here in Karratha WA for around $1200.
Does this sound about right?
What should I look for when inspecting a second hand yak apart from obvious scuff marks or chips?
Mainly want to use it for the creeks and the shallow reefs in the bay.
Any input is appreciated.

Can't help too much unfortunately but can at least give you a bump.

I don't know much about the 12 but $1200 seems steep: I think you can get a brand new 13 (on special) for under $1200??

(Also: If buying a new yak always barter, they often have room to move.)

Neither have I ever bought a second hand yak but I would say you need try to be sure:
- It aint nicked!
- a test paddle is probably very helpfull (almost mandatory?) if the seller isn't well known, you can check for leaks and to see if it paddles straight.
- re:paddling straight this would be caused by hull warp from improper storage/leaving it strapped way too tight to roofracks etc.
- While all yaks that have been used (at least used properly!) will have scratchers, shine a bright torch etc inside it in a dark garage as this should show up any quite bad scrapes which may be ready to break though etc.
- cracks are probably pretty bad things
- Check it comes with bacon (search for bacon on this forum and you'll understand )
