flush rod holders for trolling?

Hi guys, I did a forum search and didn't find what I was after so...new thread.

I am still 'pimpimg out' my beast as I just got it a month ago (fair shake of the sauce bottle). A forum member kindly donated a railblaza rod holder for which I am eternally gratefull. Great bit of kit. I tried to fit it as the manufacturer recomended on YouTube, but it isn't an optimal position for a rod holder (it interferes with the 'wedding tackle') but a drink holder will be shwoit there.

I checked out whitworths and they sell a side mounting bracket from railblaza that will work a treat. Anyhoo, getting off topic.

I was wandering if anyone else trawls using the flush rod holders and if there is a huge difference between that and the bolt on kind? Im trying to deciede weather or not to add another rod holder to the order as well as a drink holder and the side mounts so I can have two lures in when paddling from a to b and save on postage to boot!

Probably because you looked for "Trawling" instead of "Trolling". Not sure how many blokes drag around massive Nets to catch their fish (Trawling) on here. There are quite a few who do "Trolling" though.

A mate of mine used to on his extreme outlaw. After a snag (on heavy line) the flush mount cracked and came out. Not sure if he still trolls using the flush mount anymore. I guess the advantage of most aftermarket rod holders is you can easily adjust their angle.

Seriously. Is it a shite way to troll, using the flush rod holders. Does the angle of the rod tip effect the effeciveness of the lure action, depth etc?

I never get up enough speed to do that kind of damage

ok. I'll give it a go side mounted and see if it helps. No use buying lots of gear if it isn't conclusively improving the results.

Mate I troll with a pair of adjustable Berkeleys [not railblaza] and have no trouble in using.

The rod tips are less than 1m above the water at the tip and the paddle easily goes into the water when stroking without clouting the rod.

Set your drag correctly and add a tether to the rods and you will have no problems.

I only ever use flush mounts.
Never had a problem with it, have even caught a few fish.

I only ever use flush mounts.
Never had a problem with it, have even caught a few fish.

Im using the flushmounts at the moment, doing well while trolling. I catch something every trip that way. But I sometimes knock the rods and the reels get a bit wet when paddling. They were a bonus as they came installed, Im thinking that I might try out the rod holder I have mounted propperly and go from there. Thanks guys. Personally do not think the style of holders has any great bearing on the results for my usage, which is mainly on flat water like a dam.

I can fish 2 different lures at the same time, and with the rod tips in my vision at all times can see they are working OK, if the action changes on one I can wind it in and remove any weed it may have picked up on the hooks to alter the action.

As to putting holes in the yak, it is never a consideration in my case as is partly seen here

I need that view as currently I paddle I have to look up to see what the rod tips are doing instead of just a glance at each tip. It seems like just nuances and perhaps not crucial, but in our sport, it is the little things that make all the difference.

Clearly like me you are a trendsetter when it comes to kayak fishing fashion statements, but the ants on the PJs are actually little lions.

The other ones that are good to stop sun burn are my Top Dogs but wearing these ones you get some peculiar looks when in public at the boat ramp, as well as lots more shit stirring by so called mates
