Set the alarm for 5am on Sunday. Got woken up just before that time by heavy rain hitting the iron roof. Went back to sleep and woke up at 6:30am. Thought it was earlier than that as there was still no light outside but soon discovered it was due to the dark cloud.
The yak and everything else was already packed up so thought I'd drive down to Glenelg expecting to see white caps. When I get there conditions were quite good, a bit of swell but only light-moderate winds. The forecast was good for the day so decided to get on the water.
Launched from the end of Broadway and headed straight out from there to about 5.5m of water. Dropped a couple of crab nets and burleyed up for gar.
The crab bait was getting eaten but I wasn't managing to pull anything up. No fish in the burley trail. Moved to 7.5m of water and tried again.
In a couple of hours ended up with 6 big male blue crabs, one squid and only one gar. There was a bit of gar around but there were fare outnumbered by sprat sized tommies which made life difficult.
I kept moving around trying to get away from them, which is a pain when you have crab nets, but the little blighters kept following me.
By the time I got back to shore the wind had dropped completely and the sky was almost cloud free. Had a chat to another member, Murphys Egg, which topped off a pleasant morning. Was very glad to have hauled my butt out of bed.
