NSW - 19-2-12 Balmoral Frustration, and then....

Postby kraley » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:15 pm

We already had a later than usual start when we headed out to Balmoral this morning - and I had to follow some guy in a big Volvo SUV who was doing that whole 'stop start' driving thing looking for a parking place where there were none to be had - so I wasn't in that great of a mood when I hit the water.

I checked the water for signs of any bird activity and saw none - decided to down rig some squid and do a slow troll out to middle head. Caught a little pinky but was really having no joy while I milled around with the several tinnies fishing out in front of middle head.

As per the usual drill - was repeatedly almost run down by dumbo's in their stink boats who thought it reasonable to buzz right past me. One moron even decided to pull up along side me when I waved at him to slow down. I enquired if he was familiar the speed and distance limits in force in NSW. He called me a bunch of names that evidently are popular with the more elderly mentally handicapped bogans this year - but decided to take off posthaste as I snapped a picture of him fuming.

As the morning moved on - I started getting tired of the washing machine that all the boat traffic was making out in front of middle head, so started slowly to head back to balmoral. As I pedalled, I was flicking a small raider slice, hoping to entice something nice.

My persistence was paid off when I scored a nice bonito with one of my casts. I was on 6 lb. braid and 8 lb leader so I could make quicker work of it than my monster loss of a few weeks ago. As I got the fish close to the yak a motor boat came close, but luckily slowed down. It turned out it was a father and young son who had been fishing all day but had had no luck - the 4 year old wanted to see me boat the fish. TOO MUCH PRESSURE!

Anyway - I was able to get it in without too much trouble and the kid was thrilled and I decided to get a better attitude about people in boats. :)

Still no interest from anything below the surface, and that was it in terms of action today - I headed in to meet the wife and kid for some lunch.

Mr. Bonito has now been filleted, and will now be transformed into some delicious Poke for an appetiser tonight.

Good to hear your faith in stink boater humanity was restored by a 4 yo. There are a few good ones, but rare in Sydney Harbour on the weekend :)

I love a happy ending. You seem to do best on the way back in lately Ken.
I think you have inspired a future yak fisher.
Cheers Gary

Nice work! I was out there fishing around the spit bridge but there wasn't much action. Spotted a few bonnies chasing baitfish in the shallows but couldnt interst them with my lures. Good to so someone caught one!

For me a donut out from Vaucluse Bay, not that far away. Hit Bonnie's last week not this time.

Wel done!

What is it about stinkies that requires yaks to be treated as a mobile navigation buoy?

It's D-liscious. Thats what it is.

Ken what magic have you worked that you are getting out so often? My PA thinks it is in hell after not seeing the water for nearly 365 days! I need some of that good juju

Poke a mom = MILF?

Looks the goods Ken. You can buy the rooster sauce (sriracha) here if you look around. Make a nice change from tobacco anyway (unless you're gunna smoke it ;-) ).

Yet another victim of the accursed autocorrect I suspect.

Nice one.
The picture for that recipe seems to have bits in it that aren't in the list.
Do you add stuff like capsicum and carrot ?

I was disappointed not be able to get out yesterday, but I wasn't jealous of these guys, getting smashed by the wake of jet boats. I saw one boat fly past these guys at about 50knots. I don't think the driver even saw them, he was looking the other way.
