MOKEN 13

Here's my Moken 13, a kayak you don't see to many photos of on the forums. I bought this one off Ebay with the Scotty rod holders already installed though i did add the extension to try and bring the rod within easy reach. This is the one area i don't like about the Moken 13, the front rod holders are to far forward and even with the extension it is still just out of reach. I made some simple rod leashes from bungy cord and plastic clips from Clark rubber, heaps cheaper than all the camping stores. The paddle leash is another piece of bungy cord. PVC pipe was used to extend the factory aft rod holders so the reels aren't hitting the kayak and a little higher from the water. Factory straps in the back hold the crate down tight and provides storage for most of my gear and is easily accessable. A centre console stores pliers, lip grips and small air tight containers for the soft plastics. On the lid is a compass that was fitted when i bought it but it will be making way now that the depth sounder has been installed. The Cuda sits on a Scotty mount and the battery is in another air tight container in the forward hatch held securely again with factory straps. Because Mokens have limited internal access i made a bracket for the transducer from aluminium that is held in place by the Scotty flush mount and rod holder. I haven't used the sounder yet so i hope all goes well. I stole the anchor rope holder from an American who posted some pictures recently, again haven't used it yet so see how it goes. The anchor trolley is fairly straight forward, only needed to drill two holes and is fitted with quality stainless products. So there you have some pictures of a Moken 13, hope it gives some people an idea if there looking at buying or fitting out there Mokens and some more pictures of Mokens would be nice.

A lovely yak and a nice set up you have there, but I suspect the transducer mount will turn out to be a bummer. Have you thought of an internal or better still rudder mounted setup?

Heres a pic of my moken and i put my trany in hull and it works a treat..i just glued it to the hull , also used berkley swivell mounted rod holders and skrewd them just infront of the forward holders which gives me the option of 6 rods if needed, but never had. This yak has fished right around AUS last year as we did a lap as grey nomads and did all sorts of water, this yak performed great and has caught some great fish. My favorite spot would have to be Streaky Bay in S.A.

Cheers Stevo.

G'day mate love the yak, how did you fit the seat? I've thought about doing similar to try to reduce the wet arse a bit.

This is my Moken 13 Angler Deluxe

Not much has been done to it apart from buying a PrecisionPak YakPak which sorted out more storage and extra rod holders. Only thing to add is a fish finder, but as most of my fishing at the moment is for Bass I won't have a need for one until off season when I return to the salt.

Nice seeing everyones Moken's. Here's mine to add to the mix, the "Dash Yak". Bought it about 6 months ago and have only just got round to adding various bits and pieces to it. Came with the Scotty triple holder.

First addition was the esky/rod holder/storage, then added a little cutting board/measure and lined the front hatch with some hatch tape to make a more waterproof hold up the front. Still to add an anchor trolley, sounder and a nice "Dash Yak" sticker on the sides.

Okay so as I said I was waiting for me offshore fish bag from America and as I had hoped it fits perfectly in the bow hatch. I purchased the product from hook1 kayak fishing supplies and the bag was considerably cheaper even with postage than similar products available here on ebay. I'm slowly getting the Moken kitted out. Next will probably be a sounder , after battlefield testing I realise they are a valuable tool, I wanted to hold off to see if I really needed onethe idea of fitting one just to say I have a sounder on my yak did not appeal. Now I know for my stlye of fishing its essential.

See the fish bags from Hook 1 come in 3 size's (YakCatch 1 - Small - YakCatch 2 - Medium - 7.25" x 13" x 32" YakCatch 3 - Large - 9.5" x 15.75" x 42")
What size is your bag that fits Moken so good ??
