Aidan possibly a couple of options come to mind mate .... maybe Hatrick Lures modified abbreviation from geriatric ..... or Maroon Lures because it's a good colour that pisses Mexicans off ..... or even Arsey Lures .... but they could just remain anonymous ones.

The lures all had their first swim today in a pool, with all bar one doing the right thing. click on pics to enlarge

The faulty one which is also the smallest has now been modified, with the towing eye removed from the bib and instead epoxied into the front of the body, then tomorrow it will either swim OK or go into the bin. Also pinned all the bibs that are used for towing the lure along
EDIT 19/10 The modified one has had another swim and is for the bin now.

Used Halco #3 crosslink snaps as hooks instead of swimming them properly rigged, primarily to save having to remove hooks and rings again to finish painting of the lures..

Tomorrow it's into the local fabric shop to buy some fancy lace to use as stencils for painting some body art on the timber, then maybe see if they can hook a fish at weeks end.

Ringo this is actually the first one made about 4 months ago made with a jig saw, 100mm sander, and the plastic lid of paint tin as a bib .....it was a shocker, but swam OK although fish totally ignored the ugly little bastard ...it is now at the local rubbish tip

Thanks mate appreciate your input but am going in another direction that may be simpler using a brush only, however only time will tell.

Will add the final result to this thread when they are completed.

Steve simple for me is not using cans, as requiring four colours needs 4 cans.

Having done some paintings as a hobby, will just use acrylics and brushes on a palette with water clean up of everything, and using 4 colours can mix to a dozen variations with a brush.

I will however initially use spray can of clear enamel applied over the colours to complete the lure, and 2 coats of this has looked OK in early trials.

The end result will not be a patch on the the finish of the Jayson [kiwozi] lures, and most likely your own output creations, only saw your name on the LL Forum tonight.

Being the first batch I will be content just to have colour choices and not be too fussed on the quality of the appearance as I reckon that will only come with a lot more practice on my part.

Fair enough! I've been using the cans left over from building RC planes so far though I've recently bought a cheapo airbrush and a few tamiya paints to have a play with.
I must admit that the finishing is not my favourite part of building anything, maybe because I suck at it - so I've been enjoying using the pigments in the resin for the base color at least, and sometimes for mutliple simple colors with a bit of planning.

Looking forward to seeing more!

Steve as a builder of model control line scale planes , i have found that the cheap acryllic small pots of paint you buy at Spotlight are very good and cheap to use with an air brush and then just give the model a few coats of gloss or satin clear enamel over the top , looks pretty good and saves dollars , the same can be done with lures , and you have the choice of many colours without breaking the budget , Dodge is basically doing exactly that

This first batch has now been finished and only time will tell if the fish are interested.

To paint the colour used acrylic tube paints I had in stock and colours on this palette were blue, red, white, green, and a dash of black, and mixed to get the variations seen, all the colour painting was finished in about 20 minutes ....after they dried for 10 minutes used some acrylic orange applied by a cotton bud to make the eyes with a medium point permanent marker dot for the pupils.

After letting everything dry for another hour, over coated every lure with a coat of acrylic silver, or gold, acrylic glitter paint, in the pics you can see black spots but they sparkle silver or gold in real life, everything was left overnight and this morning they all got 2 coats of spray clear enamel to complete the job, and at lunchtime have added the Owner trebles as required to make them usable.

In the pic below the cloned plow is in the centre, while below are a couple of smaller 47mm bodies that are the same but painted in different colours

On top in the next pic is a cloned scorpion, and on this have made a rubber stamp from closed cell rubber so the side pattern can be stamped using the black acrylic for continuing patterns [the side has been stamped 3 times in the image], and underneath are 2 experimental 45mm bodies and hope the left one works, as it is a simple carving to make.

The last group is above a cloned Flopy with the surface bib, and below at right is a cloned stumpjumper, while left is another surface creation and a motley experiment of various fabrics used as as a stencil

After these all have had some serious fishing time will work out what models to improve on as well as putting in more time on the final appearance.
